http://in.reuters.com/resources/r/?m=02&d=20071217&t=2&i=2519375&w=192&r=2007-12-17T225039Z_01_N17435149_RTRUKOP_0_PICTURE0TORONTO (Reuters Life!) - A Canadian man who said he sold his 15-year-old son's prized video game, a Christmas gift, on eBay after catching him smoking marijuana has sparked an online debate on who is wrong -- father or son.

The unidentified man decided to punish his son by selling the popular and hard-to-find Guitar Hero III videogame he had bought him for Christmas for $90 on the auction site where an Australian buyer bid $9,100. It was not known if the sale at that price actually proceeded.

"I had finally got the Holy Grail of Xmas presents pretty much just in the nick of time. I couldn't wait to spread the jubilance to my son," the father said in a letter accompanying the posting on eBay.

Insert disgruntled " Stepfather " :smoke:

"Then, yesterday, I came home from work early and what do I find? My innocent little boy smoking pot in the backyard with two of his delinquent friends."

The seller, who describes himself as an elementary school teacher but could not be contacted to verify his story, said that by selling the game he intended to teach his son a lesson.

But whether true or not, the five-day auction, that ended on Dec 10, elicited more than a 100 comments.

Some sided with the disgruntled father and others accusing him of "publicly humiliating" his son.

A debate? The kid got caught in his parents house smoking pot and his toy was taken away. What's the big deal?

My Dad busted me when I was about 18 in a similar situation - backyard, couple of friends, etc.

He flushed all my dope and set fire to my bong on the patio.

I sure am glad that there wasn't an Internet frenzy over the matter and it was forgotten about in a couple weeks.

I wish I could live in a country safe enough for this to be news.

So did the sale go through on ebay or was it just a fake bid.

it's got to be bullshit. I just bought it for the wii for my sister at walmart for $89 USD. If you go on ebay right now, the game is selling for around $120 USD or so (at that's right now with christmas only a few days away). $9,100 a week ago? no way!

I have never tried the stuff, but if my dad had caught me doing that, it would've disappointed him so much that I would do anything and everything to make it up to him. Disappointing my dad was one of the worst things I could do and I did it once and I remembered how horrible I felt.

I think the kid got let off easy. Most of my friends fathers would've either sent their kids off to the army; kicked them out of the house; or made them start paying room and board to stay at the house. If this story is true, whoever thinks the father is harsh is way too soft on the kid. It doesn't matter if marijuana is not a hard drug, I agree it's not, but it does affect you a lot - I have two pot smoking friends that do it a couple times a week. They can't focus on anything, can't do work that requires great attention, and have poor memory.

Cigarettes are horrible too, but that's another story :)

George Washington smoked marijuana. The father of the United States. Do you think you're better than George Washington? Guess who else thought he was better than George Washington. Adolf Hitler.

I think the father's way too uptight, but he does have the right to punish the kid.

I think the father is wrong. All he had to do is sit down with his son and communicate. He turned a could be positive situation into a negative one by doing that. So now if the son ever does anything else he will be sure the father never finds out. When the father found out he should have said you can tell me anything let's talk about it. People get into punish mode to much now days when all it takes is a heart to heart and a loving father/mother.

Crack kills. Beer makes drunk drivers. Weed makes television shows ratings go up.

So anyone that doesn't like/smoke weed thinks they are better than George Washington, but in actual fact they are more evil than Adolf Hitler....??

Your logic is somewhat flawed. You are an obvious weed smoker, try posting when you're not baked......it might make more sense.....:whistling

I'll let you get back to your bong with all the other cool kids now Cheech......

What a dumb ass, I like how he thinks his son is some innocent little kid, when hes just as guilty as his friends. Pass the blame seems to be a very popular game these days when it comes to parenting.

If you ask me the kid got off easy, i don't even see the hype of all this guitar hero stuff, its a stupid video game and is a joke compared to the real instrument. Just selling off the video game, and people are saying that its too harsh?! wake up people its just a video game.
