This tutorial is help adjust out of sync audio in VLC player.

Step 4:

Change the setting: Audio desynchronization compensation.

Adjust it so that it matches the video. You may have to play around this a bit
The values are in the unit of ms(milli seconds).
So 1000ms = 1 sec

Note: Positive numbers move the audio forward
Negative nubmers move the audio back

Step 5.

Click on Save.

-Be sure to go back in the options again and change it to zero after you are done watching the video that was initially out of sync.

-Or you can click on |Reset All| once you are in the Preferences window

------------------------------------------------------------------

Second method: On the fly method using the keyboard shortcuts

if you want to change the sync on VLC media player:

While watching the video

ctrl + K or ctrl + L
to increase/decrease delay

(it goes up by 50 miliseconds each time)

This does not have the same precision as the previous method bu tit works on the fly. Once you are close, then you can go in the Preferences menu to adjust with more accuracy.

the end

[feel free to add suggestions/improvements/corrections]

Just wondering, does this reset when you watch a new video or will it keep the same offset and you have to remember to set it back to 0?

Just wondering, does this reset when you watch a new video or will it keep the same offset and you have to remember to set it back to 0?

Using Method 1, after you press the save button, the settings do not reset each time and are saved until the next change. Therefore, one must remember to go back in there and reset it to 0 for a movie whose audio is in sync.

Using Method 2, the synchronization settings are reset each time you start a video.

This is a very handy guide/tutorial. I get this question a lot and think it should be something widely advertised so everyone knows how to do it :D

I can't thank you enough! There isn't anything more annoying than when the audio and video are out of sync and I'd been looking for ways to correct it. Once again, thank you.

I have found that the power settings can cause a delay or an out of sync audio. When I switched to "full power" or gaming, the bad audio sync was fixed.

For whomever this may be of interest, this works fine, but not if you're going to broadcast on Plex. On these cases, I've found that the only way is to find out what the delay is (in ms), open the .mkv in Mkvtoolnix, then select the audio track, set the delay and "start multiplexing". Yes, that will give you another file, of the same size, but synced, with no need to adjust on the fly, which is not possible on Plex.

Note there's also a delay setting for subtitles.
