I can download like fuck using Usenet. Never seems to be a problem. However if I download at high speeds using BT it fucks my modem. Allen gave me some advice earlier re uTorrent doing that.

I am currently playing with the settings to see if I can get the cunt to stop breaking my PC, however I would also like some advice on the best alternative. What BT Client should I be using.

I have no interest in cheating ratios or anything like that, I'm perfectly happy to upload more than I download.

Thanks for any help.

It's the one supplied by Virgin, changed a wee while back.

Some generic piece of pish with ntl 250 written on it.

It happened to me a lot.

It seemed that the modem got bottlenecked at certain times of the day.

In the morning, I'd be getting like 400kbs down regular. Which is spunkable for me. But in the evening, I'd be getting 20kbs which sucks testicles.

You BT modem gets zapped to fuck at high usage points in the day. So you may be paying for 8 megs or whaterfer, but at certain times of the day, you're getting fuck all like that.

Kill your neighbours seems like the only practical solution.

never had any problems with it though, but i live in the middle of fucking nowhere and my neighbours are frail and smelly. also i recently plugged said modem into a linksys wireless bb router and still its fine. i use ktorrent, though it works just as well in windows with any client of the windows variety

I've cut the global connections etc way down. It's now downloading a lot slower, about 300kB/s but hopefully the modem will be able to cope.

Like I said, with Usenet it can be 4 times that and it doesn't cause a problem.

i use utorrent 1.6 (474)

i would try to explain why, but its a long fucking story.

fact.

regarding the cutting out problem: try to just download 1 torrent at a time and pause everything else to see if that helps.

whats the size of the torrent are you currently stealing?

Sextent

The torrent I'm stealing is 751 MB and I do tend to download 1 thing at a time, with high speeds it seems to make sense.

I'm trying using lower maximum connections and peers to see what happens. I had lowered connections to 100 and it still needed reboot so I've lowered that to 50 and peers to 15.

If that works regular I'll try higher and get a decent balance.

that sounds ok - huge packs make my modem reset itself.

this might be helpfull too, another link for optimising utorrent: http://torrentfreak.com/optimize-your-bittorrent-download-speed/

I would suggest replacing the modem with something more modern that can handle more simultaneous connections. But 1st I would see if there were any custom firmware's available which fix the prob with your particular model.

Under what circumstances would you make these suggestions.

Still in a bad mood btw.
