Saw this today with the family and was pleasantly surprised. It was really rather good.

Nonsense.
There has been a concerted effort by some religious nuts to paint the movie as such but most critics agree that the anti-religious sentiments are far more evident in the books but nearly erased from the movie.
If you're a fan of the book series this may upset you but if you're coming to the movie fresh apparently you'll not notice.

Haven't seen the film yet (going on Wed.) but I wouldn't let "word on the street" scare you away.

I got so bored with the movie my wife and I turned it off half way through and played some Guitar Hero instead.
