While I don't think downloading other stuff is particularily immoral, downloading porn is even less so.

From what I understand, it's not uncommon for people in that industry to exploit newbies to the business, no to mention all the trickery wot goes on online, where people lose money and so forth, getting stuck with dialers and woteva connected to porn sites.

Not to mention that they rely on lonely people with no outlet for their urges to pay them lots of money.

And some porn promotes some pretty skewed values, at that

The individual would be the only one to really know if they would have bought the product, were it not stolen via the gift of internets. See pro267's post.

It's an interesting point either way. A DVD movie isn't really the physical media you buy, it's the intellectual property stored upon it. It's the movie itself, not the medium.

So what would be more wrong, downloading a movie, or stealing the DVD you burned it to.

Don't see your point. A reasonable, ethical definition of stealing is taking something belonging to someone else, without paying them for it. (Legally it would have to contain the idea of permanently depriving, but we're not talking law here).

However if you would like to use another word for taking stuff that doesn't belong to you, without paying for it, I'm open to suggestions. Or are you suggesting that by using a euphemism the theft is more palatable to you.
