What is the best way to share file between two people so that you can browse each others files and pick what you want to download. I think ftp might work but i am not to sure how to set up a server properly.

well, if you're in the same room then hook your comps together with an ethernet cable and share folders.

For the net, ftp is a good way to go. However, upload speeds will be very slow. You might as well upload to a file hosting site so that the initial upload would be slow but all subsequent uploads would be fast.

Yes I would also suggest WASTE.

It's a secure/encrypted and minimalistic P2P Tool to establish a link between trusted contacts,
chat with them or just browse and Upload/Download Files.

You could set up a virtual LAN between your and yourfriends PC. Using, for example, Hamachi https://secure.logmein.com/products/hamachi/vpn.asp?lang=en

if its private stuff ftp is probably the best, if its not then bittorrent is better. Even with just 1 seeder, all the other peers combined will probably give your buddy better speeds than you alone.

ftp.

for the server end make sure to forward the assigned ftp port properly and make sure to allow only username/password connections.

I agree with running an FTP server, real easy to setup and as quick as your connection is. All you need is FlashFXP (or whatever client you so choose) and Serv-U (again your choice)..

Waste, or a FTP. Maybie utorrent without a tracker is a good choice too.
