View Full Version : How to break up big files?

I downloaded a movie with two parts (CD1 and CD2) and both files were a little under 700mb. Now what I want to do is break up each CD into multiple parts so its not one huge upload and is download friendly to other users who may download it.

Now, I know you use WinRAR, but each time I've tried to add the file to the archive and have the mb be 100 per thing for some reason it comes out with A LOT of parts rather then 7 or so.

Does someone know what I'm doing wrong and can perhaps point me into the right direction so I can get this done?

What are you writing in "Split to volumes" when packing with winrar?

Or use HJsplit...

100mb.

I thought HJsplit packs the files together to be one big file, not multiple parts so its upload and download friendly.

im not sure but winrar dimension is bytes so you have to write 104857600 bytes thats 100MB

Use winrar with the split volume option while compressing and you can change to any size you want.

It is very easy and simple.:)

I'll try that.

Ya, I use WinRAR but I run into the problem when splitting the volume and while compressing it.

I thought HJsplit packs the files together to be one big file, not multiple parts so its upload and download friendly.

HJSplit will enable you to split the large file into smaller chunks, which can be much more easily sent and stored. Later on these chunks can be re-joined using HJSplit itself or HJJoin.

Finally got it working 'cause of some peoples great informational post towards this problem.

Thanks to everyone who helped me out. Much appreciated.

That was the right solution. I think it was important to highlight this for other users that may ask this.
