Use to use Winamp, but after i tried out Oinkbar (modified version of foobar) i switched. Having the same look of itunes with less memory usage of winamp was enough for me to switch.

I think Foobar sounds better and I like the way it handles multiple playlists.

You can easily see which playlist is playing ! I have lots of playlists, so this is important to me.

Winamp seemed to spent all of their development time on skins, whilst skins are nice to look at, they should not be the main focus of a music player !

Have many of you used the latest version Foobar 0.9.5 ?

It has a new User Interface option which make sit easy to layout playlists, albumbs etc.

I use foobar. I think it sounds better and I like how you can change the interface in a million different ways...though yes it is a pain in the arse to customize but once you have it set up it rocks.

I recently switched from winamp to foobar and I must say I dont think Im going back anytime soon. It took about 5 seconds to start winamp, even with classic skin and I stripped all of the useless plugins which was all of the plugins. Foobar on the other hand starts up in about a second and can be customized a lot if you want to.

Yeah it's great how you cant tons of plugins to foobar and it still opens up as fast as without them. Cant say same for winamp.

Edit: Pretty decent player, default skin looks cheapo, doesn't have mini mode which I love about winamp. Foobar is OK, but I've been using winamp for ages, going to take a good player to get me away.

I voted for winamp. I tried foobar like a year ago, but the thing is too complex..all the plugins, the customizing options, preferences...etc. I just want a Audio player :) I'm sure it's a cool app..but I'm not giving up my winamp 3 for anything atm

If you only want audio player, then isnt basic foobar good? I use the basic layout with album list and its great. I dont really use album art plugins or something that slows it down. Keep it fast and clean.

If you want skin with very nice eyecandy then check out the FofR link below. It provides DL links to plugins and tells you if you're missing something. Very easy to install.

Both are not as good as XMPlay. It is smaller than both,better sound reproduction than both and is the only free player to have the WASAPI output plugin => The OS (Win Vista)does not oversample the source. Bit perfect

I've used Winamp since 2.81 and have never found a player to replace it. The new winamp (v 5) comes with the Single UI skin Bento which is pretty slick. Also love the tons of plug-ins available.

I do like foobar (once you spend hours setting it up) but it is still too much of a hassle. I'm hoping songbird continues to improve because I'm sick of winamp!

I use Winamp with the "SRS WOW Thing!" audio enhancer. I run it from my pc into a powerful stereo system with subs. I also have a nice soundcard. The sound quality doesn't get much better (maybe a real powerful car sound system would be better but for pc this is more than good enough). :P:cool:

It is very irritating to see people saying Winamp or Foobar is good. I have tried both,but their sound is NOT AS GOOD as XMPlay.

Dont be ignorant or lazy,try XMPlay,it is free,small in size,good looking customable skin and it allows Bit-Perfect in Win Vista through the Wasapi output plugin which is better than Kernel Streaming and ASIO and but up till now only XMPlay has it.

Both ASIO and Kernel Straming still goes through the Wasapi interface. In computing language,the lesser the layer of abstractions or layers,the faster the code and this means lesser latency = more accurate sound

Last words ranking in sound quality reproduction

XMPlayer with WASAPI > Winamp with native ASIO driver not ASIO4ALL > Foobar2000 with either ASIO or Kernel Streaming

There are differences, if you listen closely,some music will have cymbals sounds that will be missed with winamp and foobar. But the source must be lossless or from a cd. If it is in mp3, these details will probably be removed already
