Vice City Q&A.. A lot of at least...

When i start to play vice city it works perfectly, but after 10 or more minutes it just stops and i have to restart my computer. What should i do????
I have WIN XP, geforce 2 MX, 700 Mhz, 256 mb RAM. :(

regardless, Nightassassin was right, you really could do with a new pc. Nowadays your looking atleast 1.5Ghz if your wanting to run games decently, with 512 memory and at least 64mb of graphics (AGP) of course better naturally would be better.

dude, you really have to stop reading into specs, ive seen 700mhz machines run the latest games fine, the only thing i would really suggest needs upgrading is the graphics card, but honestly, I can play vicec ity on a duron 650, 256mb of ram, and a geforce 4 mx fine.

Everyones going on about new pc's and so on, and it makes people beleive into the hype, whilst having a faster pc would be good, a lot of people dont realise that as soon as a new chip comes out, it doesnt make the old one slow

Plus, he says that the game runs fine at first, so lets be constructive rather than telling him to splash out on a 1000 dollar system, which not all of us can afford

mate, i would suggest checking for overheating problems. Run some other processor intensive apps and see if you get the same thing, then report back and we'll see what we can do.

I doubt it will run with a geforce 2 mx (decent anyway), geforce 4 mx's are dead cheap these days, i advise you get one. I wouldn't say that is the main reason it's not working though.

I said that the game works perfectly in all resolutions, but after a while everything just stops!!!!When i install the game, after it asks to put in the second cd i have a couple of error messages and i have to press ignore on all of them. Which version of Vice city is the best?????????

I downloaded GTA Vice City from suprnova and it plays fine on mine.Have you got the latest drivers for your card?

IMO you don't need a new PC just upgrade your RAM and see how you go with that.

Try disabling a certain sound option, I forget which, something like dynamic sound or something, it's an on/off option in the sound options menu ingame.

This fixed my random crashing errors.

if you like speed, strength and doing stunts in vice city, try this edit-made myself and works great
just go to the data folder then open handling.cfg and change your car stats"favorite car or one no one else has"sunshine autos" to:

I&#39;ve stopped playing VC now for a while because I&#39;ve got 14 out of 15 properties and I was just driving around for a week looking for missions to do. It say&#39;s I&#39;m at 50% done but can&#39;t find any missions at all, and even if i do it would probaly just be one mabey two missions. I want the missions that lead to more and more till I eventually get them all but it is just getting sooooooo f&#036;%^ boring, Does anyone have a sure way to get more missions when a guy get&#39;s to the point in the game I&#39;m at?? Probaly going to uninstall soon if I don&#39;t get to many options, so after a couple of day&#39;s no need for more responses&#33;&#33; :beerchug:

Is anyone else having the "Catostrophic Failure" error at around 40% into the installshield installation? I have both CDs, bins and cues, and extracted everything correctly. Is it my Windows XP thats causing the problem? Or maybe the privilages under my User name? Has anyone eiter installed/played this yet or worked around this problem? Ok its simple enough, i noticed a few people had problems with the game, so i&#39;ll post the way i did it (just finished downloading, have the game on ps2, so much better on pc).

1. Go through the normal installation on cd1, but at the start of the installation, deselect the radio station.
2. Install (it shouldnt ask for cd2)
3. On cd2, go to the patch folder, copy the exe file and go to where you installed vice city, and replace that main exe with the one you copied.

Voila :D

I&#39;m not sure if this is the cue files fault because all it does is load up the bin, i make my own cue files (quicker than to find a download) and this is what i got:

The main thing which predicts on the speed of GTA3+ is the video card.
The requirements are taking the piss and it willbe slow on anything under 64mb.

VSYNC:

my advice is to use the frame limiter and decrease the draw distance and when ur playing shut off the radio when ur in a vehicle, the thing is these help it go faster for me but it could be diffrent for everybody else so try it out but if it doesnt work well.... there could be other ways.

I never heard of that video card. It might be time to upgrade to a Geforce. Even a cheap model would probably be better than what you have now.

As for Vsync, I&#39;m not sure how to get there in XP, but in 98 you would go to Control Panel and open your Display properties. Click on the Settings tab, then on the Advanced button. There should be a tab there with the name of your video card on it. Look for Open GL settings (assuming your card supports Open GL :( ), then look for Vertical Sync and turn it On.

If you have a slow video card, decreasing the draw distance should help. But in some cases it might actually play better if you increase it. For instance, I have a 64MB Geforce4 but only a 550Mhz Pentium 3 processor. Since my GPU is more powerful than my CPU, I get the best performance with the draw distance all the way up.

Also, for most Geforce cards the optimal resolution is 1024 x 768 with 16 bit color.

Excellent point, Neo. I forgot he said he&#39;s using the "real" version of the game, so it&#39;s probably loading files from the disc while playing. When you install the game, it asks if you want to copy all the audio files to your hard drive. It takes like 1.5 GB, but if you have the room it&#39;s worth it. Then simply go to megagames.com or gamecopyworld and download the version 1.0 English No CD patch.

What i did was simply use a virtual drive and mount the cd1 image onto it, run installation but UNCHECK the radio station, then finish the installation. Then just keep cd2(play disc) on all the time. Otherwise i have no idea, sorry i couldnt help more aswell, this game is pretty good.

well first of all one of ur cds is currupt...and to virtiual mount it, you need some free space on ur hard drive...extract the 2 cds so u have 2 bins (or isos) and then extract both(not at the same time) with winiso into 1 folder...if it asks you to overwrite click no... then in that folder once both cds are extracted, find the installation file and run it...once ur done with the instillation u dont need those files in the folder so u can delete them....by the way, i want a vice city game for pc but one i got just gave me a blank white screen wen i run it and it froze up....can some one tell me y this could happen, how to fix it, or where to get a working copy(rip or real)

well i have only a few thing wrong with GTA 3 one the City wasn&#39;t big enough there were no Bikes but i loved the City setting even tho it wasn&#39;t that big and it was more modern and taking place in the present day and i liked it becuyz it took place in the present time although Vice City had a bigger more free roaming city and slightly faster and cooler cars. but what i would like to see is Rockstar games taking the detail and the speed and cars from Midnight Club and using those for GTA in the next GTA game. cuz when ever im playing Midnight Club 2 especially in Los Angelas i can picture having tommy in that city and playing in there.

I&#39;ve got both vice city and gta3.

gta3 ran moderately fast but was obviously designed for the playstation and converted to pc.

vice city however runs at a much higher speed and it looks that they took their time and made it a true pc version.

i did not change my spec in between either so....

I would get it as i think its a better game than the first one

First of all, it&#39;s called english - very easy language to learn. Second, GTA3 was a fairly bad game (pc) from the beginning, many people couldnt run it, and some had errors/lagging even with a good pc. Vice city is a great game for pc, rockstar actually spent some good time on it this time. Get it.

I would say the PC you are using...
I downloaded a rip and it worked fine the first time I ever installed it.
And you wouldn&#39;t see much of a difference in terms of gameplay in VC, concept same, just diff missions, weapon add-on, vehicle increment.

The recommended specifications are 256MB of RAM. Don&#39;t download it from KaZaA, there is a high chance of it being corrupted, get it from Shareaza, eMule or buy it&#33;

I was playing the ps2 version of VC. ANd i don&#39;t really like the controls of the cars on the ps3 controller. Plus, not a huge GTA3 fan in anyway. So, if I got the cash, I&#39;ll keep it for another game or item.

I used the crack that came on the 2nd ISO for VC and I get past the first cd check, but how do I get past the in game CD check? I&#39;ve burned both .iso&#39;s onto a CD, put them both in, and it never works. I&#39;ve tried 2 NoCD patches and they both only get me past the first cd check.

When you installed, did you choose a FULL install? You need to install all the files to your hard drive so the game doesn&#39;t try to access data from the CD.

And, as for mp3s, Kazaa wouldn&#39;t exactly be the best. It&#39;s hard to find kpop music using kazaa. Either no sources or you cant even find the song <_<

I dont put any cd&#39;s in when i play it.After my install it asked for 1st cd again to finish installing,have never had to put in any cd&#39;s since,to play it.

I recently downloaded the two .bin files for vice city called "FLT-VCA.BIN" and "FLT-VCB.BIN" and, like many other people i&#39;ve seen on this forum, I have had a problem installing the damn thing.

I load up Daemon tools, and select the VCA.BIN file, and voila, setup begins. It asks if I want to install the radio station, I click yes, and continue. about 40% into installation an error message reads:

Component: GTA: Vice City
File Group: App Executables
File: H:&#092;data2.cab
Error: Data Error (cyclic redundancy check)

So, I restart the installation, this time deselecting the radio station, and click "install". About 50% into installation and THIS message shows...again:

Component: GTA: Vice City
File Group: App Executables
File: H:&#092;data2.cab
Error: Data Error (cyclic redundancy check)

Many people have had the same problem, but no direct answers have been given.
If you are one of those with this problem, please reply. If you know the answer to this problem.....obviously....please reply :)

It showed me 57 errors, so i right clicked each error and chose "rebuild sector", which it then said successfully rebuilt 1 of 1 sector, and I done this for every error, then I "extracted" to desktop, and the new file was a .TAO file, I used this with Daemon and the error now reads "catastrophic failure".....even with the original FLT-VCA.BIN now?

Start Cdmage> Click File> Open
Choose Action> Scan For corruption

once complete,
Click Action> Rebuild Sector Fields

once complete, close.

Now you should be able to mount - install. If no luck then your bin file may have been corrupted during download leaving the file useless. ;)

I&#39;m not familiar enough with CDmage to tell you how to use it to fix the bin, but I do know that you can use KCF (http://www.geocities.com/drspud11/) to redownload the sectors that CDmage reports errors on. Be sure to read the last paragraph of the page &#39;Finding Corruption&#39; as well as the whole &#39;Using KCF&#39; page, if you want to use it :).

I got my full Vice City isos off Supernova&#39;s Bittorrent site; http://www.suprnova.org/ . If you&#39;ve never used Bittorrent before, just download the program, ( http://ei.kefro.st/projects/btclient/ has a good one,) install it, then find what you need at Supernova or wherever else you decide to use, click on the link for what you want, and wait for it to download. The version linked on Supernova&#39;s site works perfectly with no errors.

With cd mage i found 57 errors....and for each error (or "sector") I chose rebuild. and i ran the error search again and it found no errors, but now when i run installation it comes up with a "catastrophic error" now............I didnt even save the changes i made.....maybe I was sposed to make a backup first.....
Does rebuilding the sectors damage your file in anyway or cause it to not work?

i have the same errors but i have the copies of the both cd&#39;s..so i can&#39;t repair the disk 1 with cdmage..does anybody knows another program???

a while ago i downloaded and installed vice city from a bitorent which is now a dead link all was great it installed i played for hours i used a trainer with it and what fun i had but then bang my windows went stupid and i had to reinstall windows i then re downloaded vicecity from supernova and it installed lovely and the game works the troulble is none of the trainer i use to play work they just crash it
so my question is there 2 diffrent versions of vice city kicking around the net
and can any one help me use a trainer with my version

I&#39;ve just finished downloading the GTA 3 .bin&#39;s & .cue&#39;s and burned them with no trouble, but as soon as I try to install the game from CD 1 I get the error message...

An error occurred while launching the setup. (0x80040801)

Does anyone know what this means and the solution?

Yeh,seems to be a few GTA Vice City and Midnight Club2 posts around lately.

Maybe a mod could merge them if they get too much.

well fist of all thats only the first cd out of 2 and u need the .cue file and burn thoes together with nero and the size changes and it will fit on a 700 mb cd....u need the second cd which is the play cd...

okay checkitty check this out ave figured on how to burn the cue and bin on roxio but i can&#39;t find the space the size of ma cdrz is 700 MB the total file comes to 769 MB so what do i do now

What the difference between GTA 3 and Vice on PS2 VS. PC besides graphics?

Also does anyone here have it on both systems?
I see alot of questions about install problems for Vice among others and just don&#39;t get the reason to play it on PC. PS2 does have the worst graphics off the systems but screenshots on PC don&#39;t make it leaps and bounds better.
