Nero is way better.

Nero is less stressful on resources and installer files are smaller in size than Roxio.

Nero 5.5 is Windows XP compatible while Easy CD Creator 5 needs some patches that needs to be applied very carefully.

I found both Easy CD Creator 6 and Nero 6 requiring more resources and slowing down the system but again Nero 6 was better of the two but is new and has some bugs. Nero 5.5.x is still the very best. I have Nero 5.5.9.17 version.

However Roxio installer and software are more user friendlier than Nero. Nero software requires several programs to be installed separately such as language packs, plug-ins etc and the software doesn't have such a user friendly interface as Easy CD Creator.

I use Roxio ECD/DVDC 6 to make music, mp3, and video discs.
The only thing I ever used Nero for was to burn disc images, and now I use Alcohol 120% for that.
It's much, much better, plus it has all the virtual drive stuff, and the interface doesn't look like crap like Nero does.

I prefer to rip software/game discs with CloneCD, and I use EAC+Lame to rip/encode audio CDs.
Nero just doesn't have a useful place on my PC anymore.....
....
but I'm still downloading Nero6 on eMule as we speak, just on general principle. :P

I prefer Roxio 6, it has an auto update feature instead of upgrading ever time you turn around (nero x.x.xx0 this week and nero x.x.xx1 the next). Better user interface, rips my cd at 320kb, Drag to Disk couldnt get easier and Audio Central is one of the best jukebox players. Photo suite 5 is ok, I prefer PhotoImpact 8

Of course, alcohol 120% is the best for images.

Just my opinion,
Steve

i used to use roxio 'easy' cd creator (as it is as it says on the tin, easy), i much prefere nero now. but, roxio easy cd creator does have the 'Direct CD' function (it turns a cd into a floppy disk allowing you to drag and drop files onto it through windows explorer)

My comp came with EZCD Creator 5 Platinum already installed and it works fine for me, but I'm not a sophisticated user.
I dl'ed a earlier version of Nero just to compare and went back to Roxio.
It is dead easy to use.

I think that this topic is a perfect example of how not to phrase a post.
I don't think that there is a accepted standard to objectively rate one program vs. another.
At the end of the process both programs will leave you with a slightly warm silver disc in your hand. It will play music.
If you didn't go nuts figuring out how to do it, then the program was a success.
If you're happy, what difference does it make what your friend says?

What happens is that one time Nero Drop my buffer level to 0 and then i got a half burned disc and my friend says that in roxio that doesn't happen but im sure that was a problem with hardware and not NERO...

I've probably burned over 300 CDs and Roxio hasn't messed up any of them.
But, as you say, you probably had a hardware fault so Nero didn't screw up in your case.
Why don't you go to your friend's house and burn a CD and see how you like the program?

Just three questions:

- which one allows you to overburn a cd, Nero or ECDC?
- which one is more customizable, Nero or ECDC?
- which one has more options, Nero or ECDC?

Just an answer:
ECDC for newbies, for people who want a nice GUI and for people who just want to "load 'n burn".
Nero for those who want to customize the way they burn their cd's, for those who have an older machine and for those who know which one is better. :P

Not a bad point, but isnt user interface the reason everyone uses windows to begin with?? If you really want performance try running your system in DOS.
I havent found a reason to overburn yet, but when I do I will upgrade to a dvd burner (4.7G :) )
I remember when nero tried the same marketing technique apple did in the early 80's.....be the first to give it away to the masses and get them use to it and they will be back.
Everyone also mentions how Roxio has patches for bug fixes (ezcd5), but how do you think nero's build # got so high x.x.xxx.

The bottom Line..............

Try them all, and stick with the one that works best for you!

i understand u skelley, but...

yep, but what i meant was ECDC has a more beatiful GUI, NERO's interface is not as cute as ECDC's, but in my opinion it's much more functional. btw, sometimes i still use the command prompt! :P and just for curiosity, if u don't need performance, in which speed do u burn your cd's?

I havent found a reason to overburn yet, but when I do I will upgrade to a dvd burner (4.7G :) )
when i make my own audio cd compilations, i often burn 82 ~ 83 minutes in a 80 min. cd, so i definitely prefer nero.

although they recommend you to always have the latest version, mine is 5.5.10.20 and i won't upgrade it to version 6 until it's tweaked (i believe 6 months will do the work). i used to have 5.5.10.7 and i just upgraded it to 10.20 cause i had nothing to download, i mean, if you don't have problems with your older version, stick with it.

ps: nice avatar.

First, at what point did I say I didn't need performance??
If you really want to see performance, start and run your pc in dos. It will move as fast as you can type and hit return.....lol.

True, I don't like nero's interface, but to make things worse is that every-time I went to do another application I would have to download a stinkin' plug-in.
It always seemed that I was updating the the burn engine, updating plug-in's...updating and updating.....sorry, I don't have time for it.
Ezcd 6 and alcohol 120% now have an auto update feature that does all the updating for me with a single click. Once again there is no reason to research for a plug-in to do a specific application....everythings there.

My lite-on cd burner is capable of 40x so I believe that is around 6000kb or so, but buffer underrun prevention is a must.

Yeppers, the old avatar is a good conversational piece....lol

just don't forget that roxio and nero would not work together on one computer. Or expect some instability of your system. I tried to add nero to my roxio, but could not. So now I trying to learn nero. I will see what hapens next.

You imply that there is some absolute standard by which to judge "which is better".

The best program is the one that works for you, hence there is no 'correct' answer to this question.

I prefer Nero, only because thats the first one I used. I've gotten used to the more advanced interface, and ECDC seems limiting and constricting now.

 I have both of them on my computer and have no problems, I also have cloneCD, they all have their pro's and con's, it's nice to be able to pick and choose which one will work best for whatever I'm trying to accomplish. :D
