View Full Version : The War on FTN goes public

Hmmm, it looks like the attack on FTN was picked up by DailyTech, a mainstream tech site with a fairly large readership. So much for FTN's web address being vaguely secret
EDIT: Some people think that linking to the article is inappropriate, so I've removed it. If you really want to read the piece, it's not that hard to find.

Jeez, this is just unnecessary.
It's not right to do this to people; we should be encouraging sharing, and isolation.
FTN continues to do a great job at handling situations, this will not be an exception.

It's not as if FTN's address was that hard to find in the first place. Hence the use of the word *vaguely*. Posting the link to this story is hardly going to be the end of the site.

I just wanted to get people's thoughts about this being picked up by a mainstream tech site. It seems odd to me. I didn't even think that the stupid nfo was a big deal, but it's apparently become quite the story.

Actually, you can find the nfo even searching for it on google... and of course, the nfo is ALOT more explicit than this article.

Tells alot of details. If the authority gets around it, they know exactly who and where he is.

"The War" on FTN...a bit ott imo.

I assume you meant *odd*. I was actually going for the Lou Dobbs angle to spice things up. Apparently it was a little too subtle. :D Plus, the phrase "War on" is in the title of the article...

Zaxx

ott is short for 'over the top'...overstated in this case. imo...

@staff

Do we really NEED yet another FTN/Brandon thread?

most of the information is fake, and even if it was real they didn't put any connection between the name and anything illegal

idk whats going on with ftn, but ive heard its fake info, its real, bla bla bla...does it matter really? its not like it would have been hard originally for authorities to get that info on the admin (if it is legit info) if it was available for the scene group to find.

Hey
01-10-2008, 03:01 AM
lol its fake thats why its hard to find the info....

FTN is down because ram is being added to the server. Expect it to be back up in 24-48 hours.

Thx coolbeans...saves me a trip to the irc channel. ;)

I'm guessing that's not all they are doing...24 to 48 hrs seems a long time to add a few dimms..

24-48 Hour is the typical time for a ram install. Call your local tech guy if you don't believe me.

Yeah it's true, they'll be back even better in a day or two.

lol the scene steals all their shit to begin with..
its a little odd that trackers put their acronyms behind collected scene rels though :P
i wonder why these journalists have nothing better to publish than this bullshit.. i mean the informations provided arent even correct.. and you cant consider such a scene-nfo a trusted source.. well these wannabe journalists obviously do xD

This area of filesharing politics is new to me. I have to agree, it is a little sad when the prestige of a tracker hinges in large part on the latency between the scene doing the work, and the uploaders get hold of it and throwing it onto the site. Then to have the nerve to make threats when their URL is mentioned in public, when basically they're the equivalent of a fleece shop run out the back of a warehouse.
