i use utorrent and today i cant max the speed and it keep saying disk overloaded 50-100%
i used 512mb on the disk cache

is there any setting ? and what if i use azureur is it better than utorrent? (no problems with high speed)

thx

there already was a topic where someone posted very useful settings for utorrent, use search

this means the hard drive is full, it is not a setting that can be changed in utorrent you need to manage the disk space on the server. Which version of Linux is installed on the server ? either way a simple command to check the disk space in Linux is in in a console session (PuTTY) type in the command df -h this will show the available free space on all volumes.

:lol::lol: well that was speshal of me, lol, most users of vectoral do not pay for the W2k3 upgrade, so I naturally assumed this was a Linux based server :frusty::frusty::frusty::whistling

I used to get that too
You need to set your total upload speed and download speed right
Thats the only way I managed to get rid of it

What speed is your HDD, 7.2k rpm? If it is. Basically the HDD cant keep up with speed your downloading at which creates the disk overload in utorrent "i think" Because i had the same problem. But this month i upgraded my server and got a SCSI 10K rpm HDD. I downloaded a movie pack the other about 26GB and got full speed 11.6MB/s all the way and uploading at 7MB/s. No disk overload. So i think thgis is the only solution but thats just my opinion.

When I've got disk overloaded, my observation was that it was related to the fast download speed while the size of the pieces was small (less than 1MB). But I didn't think to look at the # of blocks inside 1 piece. HD's speed is way more than 100Mbps, so to have it overloaded, I suppose a lot of pieces and blocks are being written too fast.

EDIT: After thinking, what makes the most sense to me is too many blocks are being written to the disk at a time, especially when the blocks are scattered, and the HD can't physically keep up. There's only 1 solution, which is to slow down your download speed, or live with the disk overloaded while that torrent is downloading.

I get disk overload when I have a torrent downloading at a very fast rate and I am also burning a disc. I set the priority on Nero to very low and the disk overload goes away.

The old solution: change diskio.write_queue_size to 8x your download speed in kilobytes. (so if you're getting 10 megs a second, do 80000). Not 100% sure if that's the current fix, but it used to work.

Increase your disk cache in utorrent

Best solution is to increase cache like everyone is saying but to do it to 70% of your total memory on the server, so if you have 1024, just do about 700mb

This will only work a little bit. For large files, eventually, if you dont limit your download speed, it will come eventually. So besides the memory, adjust your download to about 5mb/s for large files (dvdr size and bigger) as your hard drive just cant keep up physically.

Smaller files shouldnt have the problem at all.

@ predateur, look at my thread : http://filesharingtalk.com/vb3/f-bittorrent-43/t-how-avoid-disk-overloaded-seedbox-258586, there's several settings there, and if you wanna use mine, don't forget to change the limit to some value between 768-1024

if you got 1gig of ram use 512 mb fstokebanget (http://filesharingtalk.com/vb3/../../members/fstokebanget-168464) link is good use that, i hit 66 mark on my GBIT server

when i have 256 and the disk overloaded i change it to 512, after 10sec it will over loaded too, i change it to 700 another 10sec and it overloaded too :(
do you think with a SATA disk we have the same problem?

yeah i have the same problem...but I'm fine with it. I am just going to reinstall windows.

this just happened to me for the first time. the problem for me was that i just got a new HDD and was transferring a bunch of my files onto it. because i was transferring about 100gb, that was taking up the disk speed and caused it.

It depends on how fast you are downloading. Some things to look for:

separate OS and data onto different disks--If you have a low memory system, swapping of OS will impact download read/writes, while torrent disk activity will impact OS performance
balance torrents onto different disks -- e.g. if DL'ing multiple torrents, spread out the load. By the same token, if you are doing a high speed upload, that should be balanced onto a different disk from where you are writing DL'ing torrents.
quality of disk controller -- crap controller will bog down under load, especially IDE controllers (there's a reason why enterprise servers don't use IDE)
cache size on hard drive (obviously you want a bigger cache)
spindle speed of hard drive (faster spindle, faster writes, generally)
Another potential fix: put in two disks and stripe the disks for better performance. Even if they are just IDE disks, this should improve write and read performance.

i just tried it , didnt work :( i dont think there is a solution for this problem, or maybe with SATA disk we dont have this problem i dont know. i will try to defragment the disk maybe it will work, because i didnt have this problem my first days and i dowload at 8mb/s and seed at 10 in the same time (now its impossible lol)

This is probably the best answer your going to find. I have the exact same problem at times and the best advice I can give you if your not going to upgrade your hdd is to keep an eye on the pieces when your downloading and adjust your speed based on how many pieces you have sitting there. When you see a scroll bar on a normal screen page I tend to adjust it down till it catches up. Try that and see how it goes and feel free to ask if you have anymore questions.

Do you have an antivirus turned on ? real time scanning i get overloaded when downloading with it turned on ctrl alt delete and look in task manager to see how much cpu useage is used by what it should say around 90 percent for this to happen

What type of service plan are you on and how much does it cost for a 10k rpm hard drive replacement? There's no selectable option for the 10k hard drive when you order on LW.
