View Full Version : What I Hate About Music.

Post things music related that annoy you. Don't say like "I hate rap" because that is just a personal taste.

You know what I hate?

Remixes. They take a good song and make it sound crappy. Now taking a crappy song and making it sound good there is nothing wrong with that but that's never the case.

Not being able to understand the lyrics. You cant fully understand the words the singer are saying. You can only understand a part of it. This can be fixed by looking up the lyrics and reading them while listening to the song. But I would like to understand what the singer is saying without having to look up it's lyrics.

Shitty quality recordings. Except for St. Anger, the problem of bad production quality usually comes only with basement recordings. Like the stuff you hear on mp3.com. You can have a potentially great song not lived up to it's greatest potential because of bad recording quality. Cost is usually the reason for this but you can always record the music onto your computer using a pirated copy  of Nuendo. That is if you know how to use the software.

That stupid growling in Gothic Metal. The female vocals in gothic metal I usually love but when it comes to the male growls I hate it. It's annoying and I cant understand what he is trying to say anyway. Get rid of the damn growls. Either have all female vocals (no female growling) or have the male singer sing normally

People not knowing what style of music a band is. People calling bands rock when they are not rock. An example would be Linkin Park. I hear people call Linkin Park a rock band all the time. Get your facts straight morons. Nu-metal is not rock.

Anything piss off you? :P

I hate remixes. Epitemy was P Diddy's Rendition of Kashmir. Mad me want to throw up that someone can butcher such an amazing song. How did he get the rights to it?

I don't like when the instruments in a band overpower the singer and you can't hear his/her voice. An example of this is Lisa Marie Pressley, I wanted to hear what she sounded like and all you hear is her mumbling over the music.

Agree's

And i also hate when supposed "music fans" who don't play music and have no understanding of music run their mouth like they are the next 50cent or Eminem bitching and dissing all these bands where as they couldn't play a instrument if their life depended on it...

Actually I would just love to see eminem playing the the guitar...Then he can say he is better than whitey ford

eh p. diddy is so-so i dont really like much p. diddy. I did see a behind the scenes on vh1 about him and i give him respect because the brother has been through a lot.

In my opinion linkin park is a rap/rock band. not metal. i think metal goes to slipknot and bands like that.

dmorgan89
07-29-2003, 05:41 AM
In my opinion.

Rap/Rock - Limp Bizkit, Kid Rock, Linkin Park.

Metal - slipknot, icp, cradle of filth,

Rock - evanescence, system of a down, marilyn manson.

All are pretty much in a bigger classification called rock. Which is pretty much other than pop, country and rap.

I don't really hate anything about music.
I guess that's only because I listen to what I like. ;)

Every music has it's time and place and people whose taste it suits, I guess.
I dnn't even care much about artists remaking other songs. Except for a few select cases.
There's some music you just shouldn't fuck with, out of respect or humility. Such as Janis Joplin & Pink Floyd.
Or the American Pie song.

I find genres pretty irritating, though. Either you end up lumping everything into vague Rock, Rap, Country, R&B,
and possibly Jazz & Blues, which makes the picky people angry (that's not rock that's Nu-Metal).
Or you have 100 sub genres to remember, and who fits in what category, and which album was really more
Lo-Fi than Ska-Alterna-Hip-Hop-Hardcore-Emo-Punk.
I just say, "I got the new Spiritualized CD."
People say, "Who's that? What're they like?"
I say, "Like going to church on lots of drugs. With guitars. And a congregation who's just about lost its faith."

What I hate about music is copyright, and the fact that it's so controlled. With our current laws, there is never going to be
any more true folk music. Case in point: The House Of The Rising Sun. Eric Burdon and the Animals probably
own (or their label) the copyright to it, but I've got a CD of Woody Guthrie singing it way back in 50something.
Noone really knows who wrote it. Like most of the songs you learned as a kid, nobody held any rights to it, but
everyone new it.
Now, our musical entertainment is compromised. Because record companies don't promote the best bands, or the
most talented singers. Just the most marketable. If Pink Floyd were to have never existed before, and come out today,
you'd probably hear one song on the radio, or a quick blurb on MTV.

Once again, they've sold our souls for the price of a P.Diddy music video.
And it's good because they tell you.

i haven't read this topic fully. but the thing(s) i hate about music is.....

people that automatically dislike music just because it's in the mainstream. It's obvious some of it is marketed crap, but some stuff is successful and widely accepted because it is good.

and also people that automatically think that just because they are one of the few people that have heard of a certain band, that this automatically makes themselves and the band "underground" and also "cool". The fact is, a lot of lesser known bands are excellent, but a lot of them are lesser known for a reason - they suck chowder balls for breakfast.

people that call a band sell-outs as soon as they get on MTV. Sure, there are bands whoring themselves out for this kind of publicity, but who gives a flying f*ck, as long as the music stays good. People do, however, have a right to start disliking a band if they change their sound significantly to something you don't like, but that doesn't give you the right to knock the band if they have widened their audience by doing so.

that's about it, i'll leave the general hating of every "scene" there is out of this, and just say that people should like music for what it is, not what kinda clothes etc the band and their fans wear.

in my opinion... when you say metal. metal means hardcore. some screaming and some loud high guitar sounds. pretty much they are a louder and more hardcore than rock. like slipknot. they're just out of control.

linkin park is too sings really low and calm and everynow and then breaks out. but it's all just opinion. we can just say thier rap/rock/metal. but i think they fall into the same category as kid rock and lb.

Linkin Park is not RAP or METAL!!

no metal doesnt have to have screaming ect. jsut listen to some power metal Like Drea Theater

Linkin Parks music is too basic and easy

Nu Metal Find: Select search type an artist an album a songEnter your search query

Nu Metal is the latest form of Heavy Metal. Whereas traditional Heavy Metal and Thrash play straight rhythms with power and speed, Nu Metal slows down the tempo and turns up the groove. The vocals are usually non-melodic and often hip-hop influenced. As with all forms of Heavy Metal, the guitar is still at the center of the music, but many Nu Metal bands have expanded out from the standard guitar, bass, and drum combo to include additional musicians, including DJs, multiple vocalists, and sample artists. The pioneering works of Nu Metal include Faith No More's 'The Real Thing' and Helmet's 'Meantime.' ~H. Tait, MSN Music

so it's rap/rock.

The thing is there's no definitive categorization.
Just because that guy got his published on MSN, there are probably 100 different
people with lists/articles, whatever, categorizing them as thrash, whiny-whiteboy-rap, pop, crap, Nu-whatever, etc.

It's not solvable. It's just music. It's just Linkin Park.
People that want to know what category it falls under usually aren't music fans anyway.
They only want to stay within their chosen genre. That's why it's so important to categorize it properly.

Fuck it. I'mma listen to Strauss, then The Beta Band, then The Geto Boys, then Merle Haggard.
Cause I like music. Whatever you wanna call it. :P

I get pissed off at people who say people should listen to alot of different categories of music and they aren't true music fans if they only like one style. There's nothing wrong with having differing opinions, and just because you don't agree, it does NOT mean you can have at each other. If you can debate this with a little more class and a little less name calling, I'll leave the topic be.

It's true that most people probably have a favourite genre, but true music fans enjoy a wide enough variety of music that they have something they can listen to and enjoy no matter what mood they are in.

all this talk about genre's is idiotic. who care's if a band or artist is pop/rock/metal/nu-metal/hip-hop/folk-rock/country etc.

WHY DO PEOPLE CARE SO MUCH ABOUT WHAT OTHER PEOPLE ARE LISTENING TO?, and automatically dismiss some kinds of music as being crap. sure, we all have bands that we hate, and styles of music we may not like, but is it really neccessary to resort to the kind of flaming we've seen in this thread.

The worst band in the world will have fans that genuinely think they are the best band in the world, and you just gotta deal with that, let them make their own mistakes. they'll come around eventually, and if they don't.....well......who give a flying fuc.....

Don't be a hyprocrite (sp?) growling NEVER occurs in gothic metal. Slipknot is not metal either. Visit http://www.n3kr0metal.tk/ for true metal sub genres. High pitched like screams are gothic metal. So don't get mad at people that don't know styles if you yourself do not know them.

I don't mind sell outs at all. Do you expect them to keep making garage music for the rest of their life so that they can please a small amount of fans and struggle to get by? The only time I hate selling out is when the groups songs basically revolve around putting down the "system" and revolting against society and of course marketing. Then they go out and sell out and become part of the "system" and make their money by marketing themselves.

I agree but surely that is up to them and if they enjoy it isn't that the whole idea? I, probably like you, get pissed off when bands I consider to be good don't get the backing I think they deserve and plastic-here one day gone the next-created pop bands do, but you can't blame someone for liking them all you can do is suggest they listen to something else. I hate noise that people dare to call "music"
(I will not name any style in this case)

Sort of like art (abstract art) you have to ask the artist what it is, and when he/she explains it.., you leave behind, puzzled and confused.

I hate that!

 Yeah it does. Heres an example. Within Temptation has a female winger who sings most of the vocals. But a little of the vocals are growls done by one of the band members. Go download Enter or The Other Half and when you hear the male vocals tell me what they are if they aren't growls.

Also ive gotten so used to that little bit of growling that Iam desentized to it. But I would still prefer no growls.
