Yes download any Lyndia vids regarding CSS, XHTML, DHTML, Photoshop CS2 or 3 (Newest version)Illustrator for Vector based graphics as well. Also download an ebook by peachpit press on CSS.

You want to look for this ebook.

Peachpit Press HTML XHTML and CSS 6th Edition Aug 2006

Description:

Like previous editions, HTML 4 for the World Wide Web: Visual QuickStart Guide has won universal praise for being the most succinct, indispensable guide to using HTML to design Web pages. Completely updated for HTML 4, this third edition covers such important innovations as Cascading Style Sheets and dynamic HTML, as well as the improved form, frame, and table features. It also includes a variety of tips on how to create good-looking pages and avoid common pitfalls of Web design.

Perfect for beginners, the book presumes no prior knowledge of HTML and presents clear, step-by-step instructions for creating each element of a page, from titles and headers to forms and frames — all illustrated with examples of the code and the resulting page. But HTML 4 for the World Wide Web: VQS isn't just for novices. Thanks to its well-organized tabbed format and real-world coverage of HTML tags, even experienced Web designers will find it a valuable day-to-day reference.

Some good suggestions in this thread.

IMO all you need is tbp. I was in the same position 6 months ago and here's what I did.

- Lynda.com HTML and CSS Video tutorial
- http://w3schools.com
- HTML Dog ebook
- Any good CSS ebook(for reference when you get stuck)
- Learning PHP5 - David Sklar (O'Reilly publications)
- Total Training Photoshop Video tutorials.

Thats all you need. Hang out in webmaster forums and you'll learn along the way.

Cheers.

My small bit of advice is to start by learning photoshop and css. I did it on my own at first cuz then I got more familiar with the application(photoshop) then what I would be by just copying others work. After that, just go thro some tutorials, try to freestyle your creations to make them more originaly.

But always remember: Most of the times it's better to skip the last effect's you set on your creations.. They are often the things that will make it look like a noob made em :P

Best of luck!

It really depends on what type of website you want to build. But yes someone made a suggestion about learning photoshop and css. I recommend that as well. I'm also in the process of learning web design. Photoshop, CSS, HTML, and Javascript are pretty much a must. Lydna.com vids plus that book i mentioned earlier, is all you need to get started. Bitme and Bitspyder are your sites mate. Good luck!

I was never too impressed with the Total Training Videos (well, non photoshop ones). I would definitely try to look at amazon for reviews of the Photoshop/xHTML/CSS books, and get the ebook versions of them. PM me if you have any other questions. Welcome to the Web Design world. :)

Well if you want to see what a control panel looks like when your hosting a web site check out the live demo link on this site-> http://www.bluehost.com/tell_me_more.html
But I am not sure if each host has a different layout or not.

If you want to learn more about web hosting I would suggest you check out the forums at http://www.webhostingtalk.com/

Excellent site, but man, for a web design site, the design and color scheme are atrocious.
