thats a fine version, i gave up on the updated versions when they were all getting banned and just rolled back to 1.6.1. unless some new version comes out with an amazing new feature i think its pointless to update.

I remember you guys this is a security update, you should really consider upgrading to 1.7.6: http://www.neowin.net/news/software/08/01/16/torrent-176.

1.6.1 ftw!!!

what a shameless display of ignorance.

I personally wont keep anything above 1.6.1 just because if it isnt broken it doesnt need to be fixed.

The steam engine isn't broken.. why should it be fixed? ...utorrent isn't being "fixed"; it's being improved. You are entitled to your paranoia, but don't act like you have any rational basis for it.

windoze '95 ftw
really guys, theres a reason they update software, its called new features AND improved/fixed security. If those aren't good reasons to upgrade, I don't know what is.
I do believe in a proper wait time to see if there are bugs in the new version, be it security realted or just stats not updating properly.

All of this has been discussed numerous times before.

just update it, and stop the torrents on the crappy trackers where it's not allowed... if everybody does this you will see it enabled very fast :P

uT 1.7.6 is not a beta therefor it's reasonable to assume it is 'safe'. Always updated to new versions..never any probs.

New version may be related to this:

You won't actually those sites that security means more to them then the cash flow will do all the testing that is required before allowing any client.

I would bet good money it is entirely related to that - which means all the people who are using 1.6.1 because they're afraid of whatever little piece of FUD they believe in are now opening themselves up to DoS attacks.

1.7.6 released to fix a remote crash bug. Also fixed 3 other minor issues while we were at it. Barring any other security issues before the release of 1.8, this will be the last 1.7.x release.

This crash bug affects 1.6 and 1.6.1, as well as all 1.7.x releases. No update will be released for those branches. Upgrading is strongly recommended.

2008-01-15: Version 1.7.6 (build 7859)
- Change: do not use adapter subnet to identify local peers
- Fix: double-clicking to open items in RSS releases tab
- Fix: remote crash bug (affects all 1.6.x, 1.7.x, and 1.8 builds released to date)
- Fix: limit local peers if disk is congested

this is good reasone to upgrade to 176:)

also if u want still use waffles tracker then u will must upgrade to 176, after January 19th they will banned all utorrent 16x and 17x version

Waffles users using µTorrent must update to 1.7.6 by Jan-20-08. The sooner, the better.
There is a bug that will potentially allow a user/agency to crash your client. There are rumors that it may be even possible to execute code.

You can read more on this issue here: http://torrentfreak.com/bittorrent-clients-vulnerable-to-remote-dos-attack-080117/ (http://anonym.to/?http://torrentfreak.com/bittorrent-clients-vulnerable-to-remote-dos-attack-080117/)

"The uTorrent team state the flaw affects all older uTorrent versions 1.6 and 1.7.x. too but have been quick to respond, releasing a new build - uTorrent 1.7.6 (build 7859) which has fixed the issue."

You may download the updated client here: http://download.utorrent.com/1.7.6/utorrent.exe (http://anonym.to/?http://download.utorrent.com/1.7.6/utorrent.exe)
You can also check for updates within the client itself, using Help -> Check for updates

"So far, the problem appears to affect these clients:

- BitTorrent 6.0 (build 5535)
- uTorrent 1.7.5 (build 4602)
- uTorrent 1.8 (alpha 7834)"

After January 19th, non-updated clients will be banned.

Can you please provide me a link or detailed description in their changelogs showing anything improved or fixed that hasnt already been fixed?
Could just be me but in the changelog I seen the only thing fixed/improved was the fix for the crashes which again I beleive was already fixed about 3 updates back.
Again could be wrong.

well for starts 1.7.5 is vista compatible; 1.6.1 isn't. Then there's the previously mentioned denial of service attacks. Why do you think 1.6.1 is better?

1.6.1 works fine on vista i use it.

Maybe im just old fashioned, I still use 1.6.1 because i "want" to and no i dont agree with any of the crap about them sending info to whatever agency you think they may be sending it to.

I still used Bittornado 0.3.7 even when Bittornado 0.3.18 was out so i have always been that way. (I cant stand Azureus btw so i will never switch to that).

I will continue to use 1.6.1 as well because i do not think we will be banning older clients of utorrent, we do allow 1.7.6 so if you want to update you can, but you can still use 1.6.0, 1.6.1 1.7.5 and now 1.7.6 (for now, things can change though)

Why do you want to? You aren't preferring an older fashion to a newer fashion, so being old fashioned isn't the real reason. Please be rational. Don't sanction irrationality, or rather the absence of rationality, by permitting judgments based only on emotion (or "wants").

i am being rational, why the hell should i change if i dont want to.

just because its a newer version does not mean its better, or its less buggy than an older version

I use what i want to use, not what the masses want me to use.

I'm not telling you to change. I'm asking you to give a reason. In the end, I just want to know why you dojn't want to change. Is that really a tough question to answer?

stoi
01-18-2008, 12:31 PM
but why do i need a reason to have to upgrade every few weeks, just look at the updates for utorrent lately. most have been realy buggy, there was 2 new verions out within days of each other because of crashes and the verion before that sent wrong info to the tracker if you used the webui in it.

My wife uses 1.7.5 on her XP, my sons use 1.7.5 on their PC, i just like to stick with what i know, which is 1.6.1 on Vista and not once have I told the rest of my family to change and downgrade.

1.6.1 is what i like and what i have used for ages now, i just dont want to upgrade (but after this i may have to but we shall see, we have a Utorrent DEV on blackcats so im sure we will ask him and get to the bottom of this)

Excellent! Only reason I used 1.6.1 was bcause of some trackers who didn't allow any other..

Now I can get rid of that damn 1.6.1 and get a newer version! :D
Only downside is the "folder"-look they had in 1.7.x before, I loved that! Why did they remove it.. =/

Cheers

Nevermind working for me now. Trackers probably just needed time to update my client status.

Really? You think so? Maybe you should try reading the thread, moron. I'm pretty sure the whole point is that's it's not a good release because it has a bug in it that will get you DoS'ed.
