memory speed?

i have 4 different kinds of memory. Centon 1gb. Aeneon 512mb. ProMos/Mosel Vitelic 256mb. and a generic 256mb stick. the two 256's were given to me and are pc 2700. the first two i bought and are pc3200 which is what my computer works better with. i was wondering if having the same brand and same size memory work together better to speed up the system? or should it just be the same size and both pc3200. i was thinking of getting rid of the 256's and buying a kingston 1gb stick so i'll have 3gb. but keeping one of the 256's so i have even more memory. and also is 3gb going to be an improvement from 2gb all that much? sorry if confusion occurs. :rolleyes:

what? its hard to find a 2gb in stores thats under 100 dollars.

To run in dual channel, both sticks should be the same size and speed.
Preferably the exact same specs as well, so the timings match.

In your case, the PC would run better with one more Centon 1GB stick paired with the one you already have and leave all the others out.

Many s939 motherboards have a problem trying to run four sticks of memory and will default to 2T command rate timing, which is a performance hit.
Given the option, I would usually prefer 2GB run at 1T over 3GB at 2T.
