I've been thinking of setting up a comptuer just for downloads, because it sometimes ties me up. Sometimes I'll leave it on while sleeping but sometimes it makes too much noise.

i do use one, an old Duron 1300+ overclocked, with integrated vga and custom made cpu cooler to be silent and don't ruin my sleep. 4 harddisks plus and IDE controller for further 2 that are coming.
I control it with RDC and it runs on windows 2k3, cuz it is the lightest windows-based OS i could install and run all i need.

this way i have all allocated resources to play on my main computer and seed 24/7.

Nope. Though I do have a separate 500GB drive dedicated to file sharing.

Been tempted to build a server, and use it for storage, but I haven't gotten around to it yet.

i am also tempted to use a machine just for filesharing since i have a amd 3500+ machine lying around unused. only need a Hard-disk. and since i can use file sharing only at night hours, the noise from computer disturbs my sleep

Hi people !!!

I didn't buy new PC but I'll be soon. Till that I'm using this one for seeding. He paused 2x times in last 70-75 days for 5 minutes (electric energy went down :) ). Sure that I'll make that combination when I get new.

Regards !!!

I just tried using an old 500mhz machine with 256mb ram and it was too slow to deal with PAR files :p.

Its ok for P2P though. :)

Its running win2000 with hardly anything installed.

yes, I just upgraded my system, now it's my "old" system. I currently continue my downloading on that one and use my new system for games only,

think I'll keep this going as I continue to upgrade in the future years to come, seems to work well. Just need to get another lcd, the crt i currently use is taking to up too much room on my desk.

what woudl be the point of doing that unless you got 2 isps or 1 isp supporting 2 lines?

it's not like torrent clients would pose even remotely problem to your modern cpu while gaming. i say sell the old rig and get yourself some cash, and have even more space on the desk. maybe use that money to get an even bigger LCD that you were gonna get.

The point is, so I don't have to stop doing what I'm doing on one comp to do something on the other machine.

Example, it's quite common for me to be watching a movie and downloading on one machine and surfing, chatting, or gaming on the other. I multi-task quite often.

My gaming machine doesn't have many downloads on it, I want to keep any extra's off that machine as much as possible to get the most of it. Yes, those downloads prolly won't mess with the speed much, but that's how I like it.
