Use a Windows Genuine crack or phone for activation , I'v never used a legit one and have phoned Microsoft in the past to get around issues like this with XP Home . Just play dumb , get the kid to phone them don't mention the other computer . Have your sticker number handy the one on the side of the tower .

You'll get some help desk in India who can't understand a word "your" saying and bingo you've scored .

Search google for keys if all else fails .

You can tell MS that your previous PC broke and you had to install on a new one. They may or may not be reluctant dependng on who you get on the phone, but they will issue you a new code if you insist, after all you did buy it.

Hey Mistic Bertie

If you cant get it going I can send you a copy of WPA Killer.
Its a small app that when you run it it fools XP into thinking it has been activated.

I have used it lots of times.

hi guys thanks for the replies, i never realised before now there was replies as i got no notification

anyway the problem is i cant get into XP to use any crack or fix, the activation screen wont let me into xp its looking for a serial for activation, so im guessing if i enter a illegal serial it will get rejected and wont register and i still wont be able to get into Xp.

an easier way to do it is, at the logon screen after it asks if you want to activate click no. it will take you back to the logon screen now all you have to do is press the Windows key+ U. this will bring up the accessibility options menu then open the narrator and you can right click on the window bar to bring up the about menu where you can click a link to microsoft help. after that window opens all you have to do is point your browser to the location of the crack for ex. "E:Crack\" and you can run the program from there.

I wonder, since MCE is supposedly just a modified version of XP Pro if you can do a repair on the kids system to activate it with the version you found that needs no activation. With XP Pro anyway, I can boot to the cd, skip the first mention of a repair (console) and go on as if I'm doing a regular install. Then when XP install gets to the point where it scans for an OS it find XP already there and asks if you want to repair press R. This second repair is non-destructive and will keep all your data and programs intact but you loose all your critical updates (not on the disk your using already) because the system files are replaced with the originals on the cd. Having little experience with MCE I don't know it it has the same option but if you use a different disk the system is replaced and the activation would go away. You can always F3 out of the bootup install at any time if you get nervous, up to the final window where it will install anyway. You just have to follow any instructions that come with the new disk, like "do not enter a serial" etc. and the rebuilt OS will be from the new disk not your old one.

It couldn't hurt to try, as I said you can always F3 out if you think the second repair option is not there. In my XP Pro it comes directly ater you hit F8 to accept the license agreement and the disk scans for any OS already present. If your only option at that point is to install with no repair option then your out of luck.

Even XP Pro disks fail the non-destructive reinstall if they have been heavilty nlited with drivers and extras. If you nlite SP updates only (SP2 SP3) it seems to be OK.
