Which one is better at sound quality WMP9 or WinAmp? I think WMP9 because maybe it has all that SRS stuff and that graphic equalizer stuff?

Winamp 2.x series is the best for just playing music.

Not to offend anyone but they both suck.

Winamp is a resource hog and windows media player will never amount to anything because its a microsoft product embedded into windows.

winamp 2, as 3 is a bit slow and hogs some resources,
media player sucks ass.

Keikan , there's nothing wrong with Windows media player other than a lack of support for the latest codecs and a few media formats. I have to agree with you on the sound.
Winamp is ... hmmm... interesting, little sheep with disco balls and stuff, but when you run the sound through 1200 watts, there is absolutely no comparing winamp or most other players to the sound from windows media player.

Um shn, I think your mistaken. Winamp 3.x series is the resource hog, not 2.x...

Definitely WMP 9. The best features, easiest to use and greatest looks. I used to use Winamp, it's looked like a VB program.

I feel the same way Amarjit, I lloooovee Windows Media Player 9. Winamp looks so cheezy, and I don't like the way it organizes. (probably because I'm more familiar with WMP 9 though).

But I think they'd both be awesome though if I took the time to get more used to Winamp.

When it comes to audio tracks I rarely listen to them on my computer. I put most of em on my portable mp3 player. But if I do listen to them I use the core media player or one of the other handful of media players I have installed.

Winamp 2 gets my vote over WMP.

As far as sound quality goes i think they're about the same. Yes, WMP9 has its SRS WOW effects, but there's any number of plugins for Winamp. Personally i don't use any of them; there's no substitute for a good sound card like an Audigy 2.

I also use Musicmatch Jukebox Plus for its brilliant file tagging feature. I paid for it though, about £13 only, but don't know if there's any way around that. Also it has good internet radio.

I used Real- once... I do not like softwares that keep useage statistics and act as havens for others to spy glimpses of what I am playing on it.

Wimamp3 was relatively simple to use. I loved the skins but ditched it for WMP9 because of the way it is integrated into the OS. Version 9 seemed to learn from past mistakes to include more of the options that attracted me to the Winamp series in the first place. I do not mind all the spyware-like components it is reputed for having so long as I have a good firewall in place. Codecs are easy enough to find for it as well. And I have a few plug-ins that work well with the player to enhance the overall experience.
