'Wuthering Heights' voted UK's Best Romantic Novel Of All Time'

1. Wuthering Heights by Emile Bronte

2. Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen

3. Romeo and Juliet by Shakespeare

4. Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte

5. Gone with the Wind by Margaret Mitchell

6. The English Patient by Michael Ondaatje

7. Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier

8. Doctor Zhivago by Boris Pasternak.

9. Lady Chatterley's Lover by DH Lawrence

Can't say that I've read more than a few of these but I assure you all are classics and won't disappoint.I can personally recommend
The English Patient is a 1992 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1992_in_literature) novel (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Novel) by Sri Lankan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sri_Lanka) Canadian (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canada) novelist Michael Ondaatje (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Ondaatje). The story deals with the gradually revealed histories of a critically burned man, his Canadian nurse, a Canadian thief, and an Indian sapper (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sapper) in the British Army as they live out the end of World War II (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_War_II) in an Italian (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Italy) villa. The novel won the Canadian Governor General's Award (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1992_Governor_General%27s_Awards) and the Booker Prize (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Booker_Prize) for fiction. The novel has been translated into more than 300 languages and was adapted into an award-winning film of the same name (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_English_Patient_%28film%29) in 1996 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1996).

The Red and the Black.... its very nice

I second that! Great book, among the best I've read. Wouldn't consider it to be a true romance novel, but out of what I've read, it's probably the closest thing to, and I can recommend it wholeheartedly.
Author is Stendhal, penname of Marie-Henri Beyle.
