i think celtic and rangers should be un - football a tised .....stopped cos it has a big thing about religion and they just hate each other and it ruins the point of football which is to have fun and win bets on players :)

You said Scotland was a 2 horse race. Fair enough, no argument.

When was the last time someone other than Man Utd or Arsenal won in England.

JP I have to say thats a load of old pony.

Scottish league only has 2 contenders..

Premiership is slightly (alot in fact) different.

One team maybe has a few years at the top but its swings and roundabouts.

Let me have a bet with you.. Celtic and Rangers will be in the scottish top 3 at the

end of the season.

Man U and Arsenal ?? You a betting man ?

I think laced up footballs were popular then lol

ok its a while back.. Blackburn Rovers..

Anyway its not football now... its a business..

Not sure how old you are but Liverpool won everything.. Spurs had a few cups..

Leeds etc.. Two horse race in Scotland.

Yes. Exactly

So over the last 8 years only 2 teams have won the English Premiership.

In the last 104 years how many of all the teams which have taken part have won the top league ten times (or more)

Tell that to Aberdeen, who have won it several times and also won a European Trophy (Cup Winners Cup I think).

Or Dundee Utd, also winners, who were beaten in a European Final.

Or hearts, beat on the last day of the league by Celtic, when a draw against Dundee would have won it for them.

You are missing the point.

I agreed earlier that the Scottish League was a two horse race.

"You said Scotland was a 2 horse race. Fair enough, no argument.".

My point, in reply to your earlier post I may add, was that over the last decade the English League had also been dominated by 2 clubs.

No - my apologies.

No-one could possibly disagree that the English Premiership has a better overall quality than the Scottish Premier League, but the difference in population is immense, doing a bit of rounding up its 50 million in England versus 5 million in Scotland. More fans, more money, and a much increased pool of players to pick from.

It's not an excellent argument as to why we don't produce quality homegrown players in Scotland all the time, as small countries like Holland (with a comparable population, although i'm sure they have more pitches than we do to play on because it's so flat ;) it's hard for us to play running up and down these mountains and hills all the time :P ), manage to produce quality players at a regular rate over the years.

The Dutch league isn't much better than the Scottish League though, and this is what i mean about money coming into the game etc, there just isn't a big enough market than for the TV rights, and as someone said earlier, football isn't just football anymore, it's a business.

With regards to the English Premiership, it's over-rated for sure. Although you could pick maybe 5 teams (remember they have 10 times the population to support these teams financially) that could possibly win it, but in the end you know it's more than likely to be between Arsenal or Manchester United, as proven in the past few years. That being said, i'm not denying there is an element of interest from these other teams that could, at the end of the day, possibly win it. In Scotland, you know it's gonna be Rangers or Celtic, unless they both have an awful season, when in reality it is usually one or the other, but not both.

And although they're doing a better job at it than Scotland is, England just don't produce the quantity of real quality players as they should do. England really should be a contender for European Championships and World Cup's, but they really don't have what it takes. (not saying Scotland do, far from it.)

Two horse race is a wrong definition of the premiership. Yes, only two teams ever end up winning but it is often only down to the last three points, we (newcastle) have come very close many a time, as shown by those results posted up by metro.

i'm a Rangers fan from scotland. i'd like to think that i'm not as biased as some old firm fans though.

Celtic losing to Liverpool a few years back in european competition and again recently to FC Porto rank among my biggest footballing disappointments. and on that subject, Porto were cheating bastards that night.

but when an old firm match comes around, i want only one winner, and no-one can hold that against me.

I totaly agree.

I work with a lot of hunnery season ticket holders and we get along great.

The pi$$ taking is brilliant and is all done in good fun.

it's the same for me JPaul, i'm outnumbered by Celtic fans pretty much everywhere, but the banter is almost never taken too far.

on various trips to Ibrox and Parkhead i notice that a lot of people there take their kids, and they look obviously quite poor. Some people have to get their priorities straight, i'd much rather send any kids i had to school with decent shoes/trainers (instead of tatty ones with holes, which leads to them getting mocked and so forth) than pay the Ģ60 (and upwards) it costs to take a family of 4 to the match.

a bit off topic, but along with sectarianism, it's one of the main things that annoy me about football in general. I say football in general because i imagine it's the same the world over, fathers having a season ticket etc while their families struggle to get by.

Football is amazing, but some things are more important.

*edit* - i don't mean shoes/trainers explicitly, it was just an example :P

Again I agree.

Football should be paid from disposable income. That includes after having ensured that your family are looked after.

I can't go, used to go every week, many years ago. I get once in a while as a treat, with the two eldest. It's just a money thing. Like you say it costs fortunes.
