I would like to add 5.1 sound to a film i downloaded could anyone recommend a tool and what i would need to do this please

have you tried dvd2svcd? it has options to re encode the audio or to simply bypass tthe audio as well if you wanna hold onto some ac3 or something. when used with the cce encoder, i find it works great.
