Lunch break question, when at work.

Do you:

a) Take it during the middle of the day.

b) Take it early.

c) Take it late in the day so when you get back you only have a couple more hours to work.

d) Do nothing between 11am and 4pm and if the boss asks you what you're up to tell him you've just started your lunch break.

e) Other, please explain

I meant your lunch break at work . . .

d, is the cleverest option but a combination of c & d is the best way to waste the day. sometimes i would go to mac donalds or the cafe before work, start work at 4pm, then after about an hour, go to get munch from the shop or mc's again as the boss would leave at 5:30ish, then go for an hour break at lunch time, i did because i could.

Other.

I never do any work between 12 and one - which is when the girls have their lunch-break. I usually fanny about on the internets. I don't eat at that time, tho'.

If I do eat, then I'll go home or to my Mam's for food when I fancy getting out of the office for a bit. Either that or survive on coffee till I go home for dinner.

I used to eat rolls, crisps and chocolate in wurk but decided I'd end up fat like Bo if I carried on :dabs:

The cleverest option (which I just though up) would be to skive all day and if you're not caught out (and thus have to use the lunch excuse) then leave work hour/half-hour early saying you can because you skipped lunch. :sage:

Fuck off, Allen, you've been unemployed since 1987.

McDonalds wasn't even invented in the UK back then.

fuck you, ive only been on the dole for 2 years, i left the job im talking about in 2003 after 5 years. then i worked in m&s over christmas 2 years ago.

Speaking of chores, I will have to do some tonight before Crabgirl gets back. Will also have to give the cat 5 cans of cat food this evening to make up for forgetting to feed it all week.

It's a pity she's not away for longer - cats eat their own feet if they're hungry enough, you could have posted pics or a video.

Just a few more days would have done it

I'm sure you said before that 1987 was the last time you worked - and that was only because they threatened to take your benefit away.

The bright side of not feeding the cat (other than potential self-cannibalism) is I won't get shouted at for not emptying the cat litter tray.

Rest breaks - a break during your working day

If you're an adult worker (that is, over 18), you'll normally have the right to a 20 minute rest break if you're expected to work for more than six hours at a stretch.

A lunch or coffee break can count as your rest break. Additional breaks might be given by your contract of employment. There's no statutory right to 'smoking breaks'.

The requirements are:

* the break must be in one block
* it can't be taken off one end of the working day - it must be somewhere in the middle {cheese)
* you're allowed to spend it away from the place on your employer's premises where you work
* your employer can say when the break must be taken, as long as it meets these conditions

I used to work right through and leave an hour early without even taking my break, but my boss eventually put a stop to it because she said I had to have at least half an hour for lunch under employment law. So I started taking my half hour break entitlement at lunch time and still left an hour early.

Alien5

I would rather take a break than work all day. everyone needs a break benchez, i think your boss is a cunt. in every job I've had its been up to the manager/supervisor/boss to say "its break time" or "you can go for break at ...0'clock."

Picture the scene, Allen turns up for work in the antique furniture shop;

Allen: Alrite, boss. So what should I start with, a bit of restoration on that fine teak drinks table - or would you like me to order all of the pending deliveries into an automated system for ease of reference.
Ben: Errr, I felt sorry for you cos Barbie was taking the pish. There's no job.

Set fades and switches to Allen alone in his bedroom at his Mam's house with razorbaldes poised and Fallout Boy playing softly in the background.

I take lunch, if I can, between 11:30am-1pm.

If it gets too late, I don't take one.

I pretty much buy my lunch at any of the various dives downtown. If it gets too late, I may as well save my money and eat at home.

Do you actually eat much by 2pm, though?

We've got a similar setup, by which I mean we have a long break around 2-3pm, and one at noon. Noon is for lunch, the other is mostly for cookies.

We also generally take a bit of a breakfast, around 10.
