What are you trying to achieve?

If its fiting a DVD-9 onto a DVD5 then DVD shrink would be your best bet.
DVD shrink guide-> http://www.dvd-guides.com/content/view/16/59/

IF you are trying to get more then one movie onto a dvd then I suggest ConvertXtoDVD.

the speed of the compression also depends on your hardware setup

NeroVision Express is not the fastest but produces great quality.
I think it's now called Convertxdvd is pretty fast.

Dvd Shrink + Dvd Fab Platinum, and Dvd Decrypter for dvd's. If it's blue ray then your out of luck.

Go here afterdawn.com (For all the best software and advice on ripping dvd's and blu ray disc's)

If u want to transform a DVD to DivX try FairUse...IMO is the best.
If u want to "shrink" a DVD 9 to DVD 5 for best results DVDRebuilder + CCE [it's very expensive but the results are "scene release"] or if u want results in short time, well, DVDShrink is the answer [also to have a good result try to activate the option "perform deep analysis..." from "quality settings" tab. Have a nice day/night!

I second Hao about the fact that if you want to take a DVD -> Divx,xvid,etc. use FairUse as the ripper!

I made a .mkv file that housed my two commentary tracks and it compressed the video great for my movie!
