Hello everyone. Some urgent help needed here. The moboard of my laptop got damaged, but the hard is working fine. I connected the hdd separately to my desktop, and it works fine. The problem is that I had quite some documents stored in the desktop of my acc. And when I try to open the user acc folder in doc n seeting folder, it gives error access is denied. I have the pass and all, but I cannot open that folder to get my items stored in the desktop of my lap. So is there any way to open that folder? Some software or tweak. Im booting from desktop hdd, it doesnt boot from my lap hdd. I have some urgent project works stored there which I need ASAP. Some help will be very much appreciated.

I had the same problem once, here's what worked for me.
NOTE: this assumes you're using XP pro

Open an explorer window and select "folder options" from the "tools" menu.
Go to the "view" tab and scroll to the bottom.
Uncheck "use simple file sharing" and click ok
navigate to the documents and settings folder on your laptop's hard drive.
Right-click on your user folder and select "properties".
Go to the "security" tab.
Click the "advanced" button at the bottom and go to the "owner" tab.
Select your name from the list and click apply and ok.
Beneath "groups or user names" click add.
Type the username of the windows account you are currently using and click ok.
In the "groups or user names" box, select your name.
In the "permissions" window below, check the box to allow full control.
Click apply and ok.

You should now have full access to the folder

Thanx for that. That saved my day.
Its a bit lengthy cause I have to allow full control of each and every file and folder individually. But I can live with that.

There should be a way for daughter directories to inherit permissions, but I don't know how off hand.

Done with that too. I had to check the "replace owner on subcontainers and objects" in the owner tab. Now I can access all the stuff.
