View Full Version : is 100Mbit connection too fast for me?

I am trying to choose between two seedboxes, one with a 10Mbit (450GB/mo cap) and a 100Mbit (650GB/mo cap). Right now I have a 15/2 line and I have no problem with my download speed. I just want to be able to seed back torrents faster to share more and so I can play COD4 when I want, rather than wait hours to seed a DVD back. I think the 100 line is too fast because I will eat through the bandwith very quickly.

Of course, I could place a strict uplaod or ratio limit on the 100 line to keep myself within the cap but seed crazy fast, but the temptation to let it rip will likely be too strong.

I'm not a member of any really elite trackers though and swarm speeds are usually between 1-5Mbits on the faster torrents I grab.

so why not taking sever with unlimited BW?

They don't offer unlimited and best thing is 2000GB++ on a dediserver that is like 5x my budget.

keep looking. you need something with more bandwidth at least 1000gb a month

That'd be a lot more $$$. I could pay for more if I think its needed or worth the price, but as for now I'm trying to compare these two deals from the hosting company I'm really set on. But thanks.

So what's you budget? Leaseweb can do you a 100mb/s 2TB/mo server for 39 euro (about $56).

Hmm that's not bad. I don't want to have another cell phone bill every month, so $50+ is a bit too high. I'd like to spend like $40. I'm not trying to move TBs like some people and I just want to take the strain off my home connection and seed as fast as I download.
I wonder how the ftp speeds from/to leaseweb would be since I'm in the US. The test with this host was half my bw or so, which was pretty sweet and I saw one of the companies in NL said it was 250KB/s max, which is a little too slow.

If you ask me I would get the 10Mbit for long them rather then 100Mbit for short time.

10Mbit & 100Mbit them both to slow for me lol

100Mbit is good for you but you will hit Ratio 1.1 fast all depends where the servers location

get the 100mbit, cuz on sites like SCT or anything witha ton of seedboxes, right at the beginning after a torrent pre's you can max your upload bandwith but then after it saturates its useless

so if you have 100mbit you can jump on fast and upload a ton, just dont use the box on shitty torrent sites, use your home cxn on those

Could you give some more info (link) to the 10Mbit offer, please?

I just realized that the difference in price is less than the cost of buying additional bandwith, so I think I'm leaning towards the 100. Thanks for all your replies.

I tried to convince my dad to upgrade my apartment to fios 20/20 but he said no. I didn't try hard though. ;)

That's not a bad idea, but he'd probably just tell me to download them. He dls and rips movies all the time too. LOL

I think he's just jealous because fios isn't available there yet.
