I just received my seedbox, w2k3. I am installing utorrent and am stuck at the first screen on the port. What port do I use and how do I configure it to be open. On my home I could open a port on my router. I can't understand how that equates on a seedbox.

I did but when I test the forward port button it shows its not open. Its killing my upload speeds.

Just like seppyporn said, stay away from the default bittorrent protocol ports (6881-6889) and you'll be fine :). Some trackers do not allow those ports, and besides that, if you use those ports it's easier for you ISP provider to "track your movements" if you know what I mean :whistling

Good sharing :P

Well if thats the case, you must have somehow a firewall blocking the port you have chosen..

In my case, my seedbox has by default all ports redirected

I have to be missing something obvious. I set the port in utorrent to 3xxxx and try testing the port with the test button in utorrent and it comes back as closed. Do I need to open it anywhere else?

disable TCP/IP filtering:

What SO do you have in your seedbox?

If it's windows, make sure you don't have peerguardian running when testing the port, because it blocks the testing page to access to your port. happened to me sometime ago..

Sqt thanks for your help. It now shows open but my upload speeds are still terrible. In the 30kBs range.

The os is W2K3. Peer guardian isn't installed yet.

Just because you have a seedbox doesn't automatically give you great upload speeds.

You still need loads of leechers pulling off you.

Try with something very popular off TL when it is newly upped.

I agree however I had these types of speed on my home connection. I just downloaded a popular file on TL and am upping at .4kBs.

Can you FTP to your home PC at full speeds?

lifehackr

Seems decent. 300KBs

Try adding/allowing more connections to FTP to & from your client & server, 10 is a good number.

With 10 connections, I am getting about 600-700KBs

Is it a VPS seedbox you have?

Have you told your torrent client how fast it can go?

lifehackr

Leaseweb

When running the speed guide (ctrl +g) I originally had xx/100mbit, changed it to xx/10mbit and it made no difference.

Have you tried running a speedtest from the different speedtest sites?

lifehackr
02-14-2008, 03:34 AM
I haven't. I thought I read the speedtest weren't reliable with a seedbox.

SgtMajor

Reliable enough to say whether you are close to 100/100 up/down.

Have you rebooted your server since you enabled TCP/IP filters? Might just check that they are defo all enabled as well.

Just recheck that your TCP/IP filters are as they should be, and still not disabled in any way - enabled for all traffic.

Try testing your TCP ports and possibly patching them: http://www.lvllord.de/

Do you have the ability to do an FTP to FTP file transfer test using another seedbox server, this will tell you if you are getting max speed and it is something else, although going by your speedtests you should be getting a really good speed up to TL at least.

I didn't see any place to test the ports but I did patch it. Seemed to help a little but now its in the tank again. I don't have access to another seedbox to try out. :(

I am going to turn in for tonight and see what comes of it by morning. Thanks for your help. I really appreciate it.

Something just isn't right. The downloads are good. Not sure they are even what I should be getting. I thought they would be higher but the ups are terrible.

Try turning DHT off, its not allowed on basically every private tracker.

SgtMajor

Well you could PM me the details and let me have a look round and let me test it, I will FTP to & from my server, which will narrow down the problems if I can max out the BW, so it will be down to a torrent connection problem and I can mirror how I set up my servers and see if anything jumps out at me.
