FLAC, some questions...

FLAC how those it better than mp3,
and can i use it on Ipod and staff...

FLAC is an exact copy (therefore much higher bitrate) than your standard mp3, which maxes out at 320.

You can't use it on your iPod without a mod/hack or rockbox.

It's real purpose is that it provides you an EXACT copy of the CD, so you can re-encode the FLAC files to any bitrate you want WITHOUT losing data.

Though I doubt many people here care if they get transcodes (which is a file encoded to say 320, than coded again to 128), it does make a difference in the quality of your mp3, which is why sites like limewire and even e-mule aren't good, at all.

Quality-wise, their really is no proof that a FLAC file sounds ANY different (to the human ear) than a file encoded at V0 (256 variable bit rate about) or higher (320), but some audiophiles swear by it.

I don't need proof. I'll take the "Pepsi Challenge" with any live or acoustic sound/album any day of the week.

FLAC just plain sounds better.

Most burning software will need a plugin tho with its increasing popularity, many are accommodating the format.

For example, users who utilize Nero will need the plugin (http://www.bitburners.com/nero-audio-plugins/).

That will allow you to burn a "flat" copy.

You can go a step further tho' and use the rip's CUE sheet to do an exact burn.

Yeah, people sometimes think they can hear the difference between FLAC and what not, but if it's compared against V0, it's a placebo effect...unless you have god ears, which than again just might be the case.

@popcop: you can burn it back to CD perfectly (which is another bonus of FLAC), a number of mp3 players or w/e like some Cowons I believe play FLAC. But for your iPod if you used rockbox for it, you could listen to FLAC, though it kills battery (using rockbox, not the FLAC).
