is that a media player that can resize the screen size of all avi films? i have a 4:3 moniter and want to resize it to get rid of the black borders as films are recorded in widescreen and i aweas wondering whether there are any popular media players that do this. i currently use video lan to play my avi films and i know this program cannot resize the screen, any comments will be helpful. thanks.

SubEdit Player - very good player and you can easly change widht/height during playing.
Media Player Classic - also easy to change.

vlc does change the resolution.
Can crop it (to remove the black lines like you want) or you can resize (stretch to fit).

Definitely go for VLC. Much lighter, more efficient, and more compatible than WMP.

use vlc, its simple, clean, and lightweight

just right click on the video when its playing > aspect ratio > 4:3 Letterbox

been using zoom player for a long while. It has an option to automatically set whatever video you play back to a set ratio. since i have a wide-screen monitor i set it to 16:9 and it automatically stretches everything.

I have not found another player that does it automatically. you keep having to do it for every video.

I use BSPlayer. I find the image quality higher than VLC. It has all the functions you mentioned too. :smilie4:

VLC yo! Extremely light program, and easy to use! No flashy GUI to get confused with.

I'd like to point out that Xbox Media Center homebrew software for the Xbox has user controllable scaling.

I find it very useful when I'm watching Dvd's since my tv naturally cuts off parts of the picture (since it's an old SD tv) and I can tell XBMC to just scale the picture back to where ever I want it to be.
