are u mad @ the fact that blu-ray won in the movie media war over hd-dvd? pretty much EVERYONE has declared blu-ray the winner.

Toshiba Leaves HD (http://www.theinquirer.net/gb/inquirer/news/2008/02/12/best-follows-netflix)

Netflix (http://www.theinquirer.net/gb/inquirer/news/2008/02/11/netflix-declares-winner-hd)

Bestbuy (http://www.theinquirer.net/gb/inquirer/news/2008/02/12/best-follows-netflix)

Wal-Mart (http://www.dailytech.com/WalMart+to+Give+HD+DVD+the+Boot+Sides+With+Bluray/article10716.htm)

Blu-ray owns Japan! (http://www.dailytech.com/Bluray+Domination+in+Japan/article10401.htm)

I am not mad since I have been waiting for one to loose out to the other before I put money down towards either platform.

But what I would like to see is a DVD/HD-DVD+Blue ray player burner for pc's to come out once the prices go down as it would be of great use for a MCE pc build. There are dual stand alone players that already do this so I am hoping that this comes over to the pc side.

Since I think this would drive down the blank media cost and make it an affordable backup solution a lot quicker.

Glad I bought my PS3. :)

I'd hate to be one of the poor bastards who bought the HDDVD add-on for the Xbox 360.

I'm just glad someone finally won. Now hopefully the Blu-Ray players will get more mass produced and come down in price.

Why would I be mad?

I did buy the 360 add-on and a stand-alone player. I was able to send the stand-alone back to Amazon and I still have a ton of free HD-DVDs for the 360 add-on.

I have never bought one HD-DVD movie.

Who knows? I might buy some of the movies once they hit rock-bottom.

HD PQ is still HD PQ.

Right now I have a ton of Blu-Rays as well. I either got those free or at rock-bottom prices.

I got 8 movies from Amazon for about $7.15 a piece and 6 from TRU for a about $20 (Disney movies: POTC and others).

If HD-DVD players hit rock-bottom, I could see getting a one since they are decent upconverting DVD players. I'd like to see one with a USB port though.

I don't see how anyone is still buying DVDs anymore.

Rip 'em and burn 'em but hell no, don't buy 'em.

DVDs are more dead to me than HD-DVDs (for purchases).

Glad I bought my PS3. :)

I'd hate to be one of the poor bastards who bought the HDDVD add-on for the Xbox 360.

Fuck yo mama.:P

I spent $170 for mine and have a ton of movies for it as well as a PS3...bitch.:snooty:

Blu-Ray ftw. 1080p vs 720i/p...

HD-DVD does 1080p as well.

I picked up a HD-DVD player a while back. I'm not pissed, it just gives me an excuse to throw more money at electronics, aka PS3. I'll just have to figure out how to rip the old HD-DVDs and put them on my media server so I don't have to keep the player clunking around.

I'm glad that the format wars are over, and I think Blu ray was the better format anyway (10GB extra for single layer is no small thing). I do feel sorry for those who already bought HD-DVD players and got a big collection.

Now hopefully the prices will come down and BD-writers and discs become more common. I'm not too keen on watching movies and I'm looking forward to being able to backup 25GB of data on one disc.

The bad thing is that BD-writers will stay quite expensive. Not only that, they will be slow as fuck.

The lowest costing player is $300 ffs.

but bluray writers have halved in price over the last 12 months, so won't be long before they're as cheap as dvd writers :whistling

...and how long will that be? Next year.

I think not.

I can get a decent DVD burner for $30. BR burners are about $300.

I've seen BD-R SL for $10 and BD-RE SL for $14.

I can get DVD+/-R SL for 20 cents.

Tell me how long again?

Hopefully write speed will eventually be able to go past 12x.

At the current 2x-6x speeds, burning BRs will absolutely suck. Hell, it will suck at 12x.

Needless to say, I wouldn't want a BR burner if it dropped to $200 if it's only going to at 2x.

ya, blu-ray is better technology. the reason they won is they have outsourced blu-ray to everyone

I made the same mistake when DVD writers first came out.

BD recording speeds are really fast, 1X of Blu ray is 4.5 MB/s , so 6x is quite fast, in comparison 1X of DVD recording is 1.32 MB/s.

Good point. I guess it would have to be since a movie on BR is much bigger.

I'm not getting even a 3rd gen BD writer. I'll wait till it gets to at least 8x before I think about it.

CDs, DVDs, Blu-ray, they are all stupid because they can get scratched too easily. I think that some sort of Flash-Ram device should have replaced DVDs instead of more optical media.

Paramount taking BD back! (http://www.dailytech.com/Paramount+Goes+Back+to+Bluray+Disc/article10815.htm).

Yeah now the add-on players are $50.

Oh well my loss. I'll still enjoy the HD films I have and maybe get more when they drop in price.

Hey I still have a working LD player.

#s? Anyone in the know could tell you that the only real advantage Blu Ray had over HD-DVD was BD+ security. And if you didn't realize this, it's a bad thing for filesharers.

It's great that all ended so now one format to become enough popular that the drives drop in prices.I am more interested in data storage than what format will be the movies.

Sorry necromantic, I mean numbers, blu ray has 25/layer while hddvd has 15gb per layer blu ray sold much more than hddvd (perhaps cuz Sony forced PS3 buyer to buy it?) that what I meant
