It depends on the site, having it on TL or TB would be too much considering how easy it is to seed there. In my opinion, having "freeleech of the week" torrents is a good way for users to get a good ratio.

BCG has the seed point system and it works fine for us.

should other sites have something similar, depends if they have a strict hit and run rule or not.

If they do then i say yes, because if your last on a torrent you might be there for months seeding it so you dont get a hit and run. If they dont have a strict hit and run rule, then no, they dont need it.

I think its just more useful to users with a not so good upload speed, helps them get some upload credit and such.

yes, it always helps and the positive effect of the bonus system is that the majority of torrents are well seeded

To get seed-hours you only need to seed, even if you upload on 0.1 Kb/s. People can live and survive at sites only because of this seed hours they don't upload at all, but they seed.

I find this is better for small sites, but there are some enormous sites who've implemented features like this and they've worked fine.

Bonus systems are always nice. Especially on dvdr trackers like tti, and music trackers like what and waffles, since they are harder to seed at.

well you will always get idiots that exploit everything we try to do to help them.

But surely with connections these days, its quicker to seed back 4 gig properly than it is to wait 5 days for SP to acrue so you get the 1 ratio.

Bonus system is good. Though Hit & Run rules should also exist.

Bonus system is good because sometimes when u download stuff u might not get enough peers to download the same stuff from u and downloading stuff that u dont need just to get ur ratio up by seeding is of no good use.

Bonus points incentive users to keep seeding which is what keeps a torrent alive. So I think that implementing bonus system is a good thing for a tracker.

Trackers that have some kind of seed bonus system implement it differently. In the simplest from bonus points is directly credited to your upload stat. The more complicated form; bonus points can be traded for invite, it can be donated to friends in urgent need to better their ratio; etc.

Those with seed box have no use of this system. But those with slow upload speed will find it to be the only way gain good ratio. Most people think that freeleech can replace bonus point in getting good ratio. This is true if the user have good upload speed, but for those with poor upload speed, seeding a freeleech torrent with 300s other seeders with better speed will get you on way.

Trackers with seed bonus system will benefit from longer torrent life, more users will be will to dl older torrent without fear of being the last to dl. Trackers than will benefit from the system are those that have 'ever green' contain; ie e-learning trackers.

If implemented properly it will be very beneficial to both the trackers and the users.

it's great on music and HD trackers cus it's harder to seed somewhat, and the torrents want to stay on for as long as possible. on 0day trackers it's not so important and the torrents will already have a decent lifespan considering the volume of downloads

this definitely helps those without so great upload speeds, which makes up majority of the community

I definitely think BCG has one of the best one's out there. Although it did take a few min to grasp how exactly it worked. I wouldn't mind seeing more trackers have a system in place.

Of course it`s a good thing.
It helped me a lot in some sites when my connection was even worst than the one I have now.

Helps to who? for the users? of coruse, it surely doesn't harm... but for the tracker itself, for the whole users in general, who knows... that may have a negative effect in some sites (encourage people NOT to seed)

or there are always some people abusing the system.

i like the HDBits bonus system which related to the ages of torrents and the amounts of seeders and leechers.
this could keep old torrents lived longer.

That's quite true. For people with huge pipes the bonus system doesn't usually help that much since they can upload huge amounts and get recognition for that, but for users with low pipes the bonus systems are very helpful. The best bonus systems that I know of are those of TTi (easy to get bonus points and great stuff to exchange them for) and FSC (the Share Index concept).

i think its a good way to make sure that older torrents stay seeded....as long as people dont abuse it and limit upload to 1kb
