I'm a compulsive torrent downloader. I already have lots of stuff to keep me busy for months and months to come, yet I still download more. I have a bunch of TV left to watch, yet I'm downloading a new TV show. How can I get my body to learn when enough is enough?

That you believe you are downloading too much is interesting, but surely this is a fairly mild form of addiction, or do you rush with shaking hands to your PC to see what the latest torrents are in the morning ?

because humans are driven by greed. You can't help it. These days a lot of people have high/decent speed internet with unlimited bandwidth. You have the resource available to you so you always want to make use of it. Best solution I found is to go get a low capped internet plan or go back to dial up (if you can still find it ). When you on a capped plan, you learn to allocate bandwidth to download things you actually want. Well it worked for me when I was at my parent's place. Ended up watching most things online trying to save bandwidth.

i find it strangely fascinating. it doesnt really turn me on too much but there is a psychological element that draws me to it. im watching something that is so completely void of genuine emotion and so artificial...yet it is based mankinds most primal urge...or is that greed? they do get paid to do what they do

to be honest my porn watching career started about 4 months ago. i dont think the sex is all too hot and i probably would never be interested in doing half the things they do in porn but nevertheless there is an undeniably intriguing aspect that keeps me watching.

i suppose its just because i havent been fucked hard and good in a couple months :(

About people who dl to much, what i council it's just to decide to stop, and if you want to dl more, just don't dl it, be stronger than the desire to dl.

I do this all day. I frequently delete several movies or games or whatever that I realize after a few weeks that I'll never use. They were the best new option at the time and I helped share the files, which makes it worth it I suppose even if I'm not getting much use from them. If I had a solution, I would have more free HD space, sorry dude but you've come to the wrong place for help with this problem. :)

However, spending time in the real world can cause problems for real addicts. Because you tend to get in to trouble if you walk into virgin megastore help yourself to loads of dvd's and cd's and games. and walk out without paying.

really funny thread
with the kind of connection speeds we have today combined with the ease of availability of files through bittorrent, its absolutely normal to go through what you are going through. for most however it is not that big a deal to get files all the time which they most probably will not use. the problems start when it starts affecting your real social life. as long as the two dont interfere, you should do just fine. otherwise, try shutting your pc off for a few days. if you cant do that on your own, try giving ur pc to your best friend of someone (i hope you have atleast that much of a social life :P) for a week or so. that way you will learn to live without your pc.

Sputnik

How come it's so time consuming? I max out my connection 24/7 and only spend a couple of hours at most on torrent sites during a week. When I join a tracker I can pretty much bookmark all old files and packs I want within an hour or so. Then anytime I visit again I just quickly search through their past few days and what's popular using the different catagories to sort the torrents, bookmarking and downloading everything I want. There's only 2 sites (0-day) I check daily.

then after quality not quantity
just download HD DVD and BD, 30GB~50GB per movie and try lossless music instead of MP3

I know blame the trackers and their good content for that. I don't even remember the last time i paid for a music CD. As for a movie, transformer the special edition was the last movie i bought. I got over 50 tera bytes of data total stored away. It's impossible to get around to it all.

as i spend most of my time outside home, when i return at night many times i spend lots of time burning the stuff i downloaded, and adding new torrents.
As of this friday i will start working as a cocktail barman many nights a week, i guess i'll have to find a way to control my pc remotely via my PDA. I'm already working on that. :D

You just need 5 steps: :naughty:

Step 1: Recognize the problem: do you check email incessantly when it is not entirely necessary? Do you go back to the same websites again and again? How many hours a day do you spend surfing the web?

Step 2: Recognize the reasons. The Internet is always available and cheaper than alcohol addiction, and legal unlike drug addiction. It offers escape just like drugs and alcohol. Once you realize these reasons, you can pinpoint Internet addiction as a real problem and not something to be scoffed at as not being a “real” addiction.

Step 3: Cut down on Internet use. This is, of course, easier said than done. You can’t stop checking email any more than you can stop checking the mail box. You can, however, stop checking it with the same frequency. Set the maximum amount you use the computer a day. This applies to chat rooms, games, online gambling, social networking sites (Myspace), and other sites that take up your time.

Step 4: Take walks, go out to eat, leave your office or home—i.e. get away from the computer. Breaking away for a few hours can help clear the head. If you have wifi, don’t take the computer with you.

Step 5: Start a new hobby, read a book, play games with a friend, play sports. Try to find offline activities that fill up your time.

We all still can download a bunch of stuff by queueing up to 30 or even 100. Then we go out all day and get back home at night, and we still see they're still downloading. Then go check with your long list of sites like 100 of them and start queueing new stuff again.

Going out wouldn't solve a thing at all.

I'm a compulsive torrent downloader. I already have lots of stuff to keep me busy for months and months to come, yet I still download more. I have a bunch of TV left to watch, yet I'm downloading a new TV show. How can I get my body to learn when enough is enough?

I guess not. I do that as well queue alot of stuff, bookmark stuff i want to download in the future (When i get home from work). Downloading is quite addictive at times. I haven't had a problem with that until recently at TheVault. So much business material that I want and need due to owning my business and in the process of starting up some more. If I have enough why do i need more? Cause we want and can have more stuff(due to it all being readily available). Don't know if that answer is right or wrong but thats how i see it (Some may agree, disagree, state that i'm ranting again). But hey?(arms in the air) i'm very opinionated. Disconny good topic.
