You are just old school, why did you never like XP.

98SE one assumes, as 98 was rubbish.

I use XP PRO, because I think the NT kernel is much better and more stable than the DOS kernel.

However I use the 98 GUI because I think it is better. I like the look, it also speeds the PC up by not having to do fancy dan graphics al the time. I donīt like all of the 3d bubble pish on XPīs GUI.

I use FAT32 as I quite like booting to DOS sometimes, for low level tasks. I know you can use some things to run DOS if you have NTFS, but I donīt think it is worth the bother as FAT32 works perfectly well with XP.

However being a total luddite that is probably a terrible set up, but it suits me.

I agree with JPaul about the NT kernel, far more stable than the DOS base.

But for me there were too many bugs introduced with XP (why doesn't microsoft sort the major bugs out BEFORE the release), I'll wait until SP2 comes out (as usual, see my sig) so for the moment I'm sticking with 2K.

I used 95 for years on my small laptop, when I got my pc I switched to xp, but maya and flash kept crashing until I switched to 2000 (with sp2), everything works perfetcly. My girlfreind has ME, has to be the WORST of all. Never tried 98. But still, its all microsoft, which makes the whole row suck anyway.

XP Pro without question is my preference, it's more stable, more optimized and has so few bug's it's amazing :-)

(And I can say that as i've used Window's 95, 98, 98SE and ME and had nothing but problem's with them, though 98SE is pretty nice and reliable if your careful how much you push it lol)

Windows 2000 pro is the best.

Windows XP after that.

Can't be bothered to explain, but needed to tell you what i thought was the best version

DWk

well I have had every windows except 3.1

95 & 98= almost the same thing...i guess the only thing that was better in 98 was more games :P

98SE = much better OS....one of the most used.... lotta compatibility with games and apps

ME = I switched to this and didnt have problems... I had it for like a year and all the problems i got were the eventual BlueScreens. every time i formatted i had to install drivers FROM the cds

2k = very stable OS.... recommendable for pcs that are on all day long

NT = well...servers

XP = in my opinion.... the best. First, when u install first time...most of the time you dont need to install any other drivers. Stability....k a lot of friends got XP and whine cuz their pcs crash like a lot...and yea they blame XP as usual... I dunno what these folks DO to their pcs cuz my computer HARDLY crashes...my old one did cuz it got a messed up network card that works sometimes... well back to say...stability defines XP. Compatibility...I have NEVER had trouble of this, except one time (NFS4)... the rest is gooooooood.

Oh well just my share...
I'm stickin with my xp (no sp1 here) till somethin better comes out. Until then, hail king Microsoft, cuz they trully know what the common user needs.

ok on the other hand, me talkin about linux and/or macOS would be like me talkin about another p2p program other than kazaa -- IT WOULD BE DUMB

hehe

it would have to be XP Professional the best opearintng system ive come acrosss ever. Its much more stable than any of the other microsoft ones as i ued to have windows ME but that was always coming up with pointless errors and xp has never stated any of them

I'd just like to point out that your comparison should be "95" and "98 & 98SE" instead. There's enough of a difference between Win95 and Win98 to allow for a disconnection. The biggest difference would be Microsoft's first steps in intergrating IE into the OS.

On the other hand, Win98SE was basically just a service pack for Win98, foisted off onto the public as a "new" OS; that's why all systems around that time came with Win98SE instead of Win98.

Now, I'm torn between XP Pro and Win2k Pro. I'm currently using WinXP, and I like it, but I keep having this strong urge to reinstall Win2k...

The difference between XP Professional and XP Corporate is in the process of activation, mainly because XP Corporate Edition is designed for large-scale enterprise installations, and requires no activation from individual computers.

I have:

Windows XP Pro,
Windows ME,
RedHat Linux 9

installed on my computer. XP is definitely my favorite, and I use Linux for a few things. ME is buggy, and it would crash (BSOD) until I updated my sound drivers

I use two, for leisure and general use such as e-mail and web browsing, I use Windows XP Corp. While this is not my ideal OS even for leisure, it has a very usable interface, and has fantastic hardware support.

When working, I use Linux, custom built, not a distribution, using the 2.5 kernel series (they are very stable already, don't flame me if you disagree!), which is simply fantastic with my hardware.

While this is a sore point with linux users, the 2.5 kernels which will become the next stable release as 2.6, are indeed very stable. My system has yet to crash after months of heavy use and I update my kernel every two or three months.

If it hasnt crashed yet then It will pretty soon. Its bound to happen. That kernel is very buggy and is still in great need of additional development. But if thats what you want to do then I think its a great Idea, the more people that use the more it helps development of it and the faster we can stomp out the bugs. :)

I like XP and Suse 9.3 Linux. Both have been my smoothest operating systems for both sides. Macintosh OSX Tiger would have to be my second favorite, because it has the lovely FinalCut Pro software. (GarageBand is also nice. I only like mac because of those two peices of software)
My least favorites are Win98 and Redhat. I hate em both due to many nasty reason. Windows 98 runs as if your compter is sitting on top of an inner tube in the middle of the ocean. One slip and the bastard will never forgive you!
Had to reinstall the crap 20 in my Win98 experience.
