evga 9600gt...send back my 8800gt?

i just bought my evga 8800gt about 2 weeks ago and now i see there is a 9600gt. evga has a 90 deal i guess where u can switch out what u already have for something better.

anybody else doing this?

I remember reading 8800GT was faster than 9600GT so I wouldnt change unless your card has something wrong with it. It could be worth it if you would reduce noise levels.

the 9600GT performs closer the the Radeon 3850/3870 cards, slightly below the 8800GT.
Keep what you've got for now, if you want to use the "step-up" program, wait for the 9800GT if you have time.

I meant GTX for the 9800, not GT. As far as I know there is no GT in the lineup yet.
There's the GTX which is the fastest single core model, and the GX2 which has two cores. Like SLI but on the same physical card.
I think the GX2 is due out sometime next month (March), and I am not sure about the GTX

I thought it came out pretty early in the cycle but was very hard to find because of popularity.

Well apparently the 9800GTX is not going to be anything incredible...
It has:
* Less ROPs than the 8800 Ultra (16 as opposed to 24)
* Less memory than the 8800 Ultra (512 as opposed to 768)
* Slower memory than the 8800 Ultra (1100mhz as opposed to 1150mhz)
* 40 GB/s less memory bandwidth than the 8800 Ultra (70 GB/s as opposed to 110 GB/s)
* Less texture fillrate than the 8800 Ultra (37 vs 47 GTexels)
* Still no DX10.1 compliance
Depending on the price this comes out at, nVidia may have dropped the ball on this one...

The 9800X2 on the other hand should be quite a beast, but probably still not quite as powerful as ATI's 3870X2 (maybe).

Do you understand the 'Numbering Convention' for Nvidia cards? If so then you should realize that a 600 series card versus a 800 series card is lower ranged.

The 9600 also has almost have the pipes of the 8800, it is not an overall better performer.

no gt came out a year after gtx. it was only a month after 8800gt's release that it kinda went extinct for awhile. basically nvidia's selling you 1 year old technology for half the price, before they do promos for their next generation of cards.

if u intend to get the 9800gx2, think again. depending on the pricepoint it's set at, that might not be too good an idea.
current 3dmark tests show that 2x 3870s produce better results than the 9800gx2.

8800GT is faster than 9600GT by quite a lot actaully. Don't trade it in. It's stupid. 9600GT is actually cheaper mate!
