k, i have XP and i have my start bar set as double thick, so its the height of 2 start buttons. i use this because i like the quick launch toolbar on it, with about 14 programs which fit nicely:

http://www.darlo.plus.com/Images/startbar.jpg

my question is: can i somehow use the space below the "Start" button, cos its wasted now?

No, you cant...But if you dont like how that looks, you can make a bar just for shortcuts. Just make a folder with all the shortcuts you want. Then right click on the taskbar and create a new toolbar from the folder you made. Then just drag the new toolbar to whatever part of the screen you want. You can then make it always on top and autohide.

You can drag the quicklaunch to anywhere you want on the screen.

I tried that and it doesn't let you drag the quicklaunch. Not on XP anyways.

You have to unlock your unlock your taskbar, then drag the line next your quicklaunch icons, it can be quite tricky sometimes just keep trying.

I'm not stupid. I know how to drag a fucking toolbar dumbass. I don't even care since I don't have a million quicklaunch shortcuts that i need to resize the taskbar.

Yes I have XP and my quicklaunch has been dragged to the right-hand side of the screen.

This is off-topic, but Xilo your sig is a bit too big. The max is 495x150 pixels. Your sig is 500 x 200 pixels.

Meh...Why'd you even say anything? Noone has before -_- Besides, there are plenty of people that don't follow the sig rules...

Well, just because other people break the sig rule, doesn't mean you should too. I'm not forcing you to do anything, but it isn't fair for the people who do follow the rules. Making it a bit smaller wouldnt hurt I'm sure.

Its 5 x 50 pixels too big, and 3kb over the filesize limit (100kb).

Thanks for the reply...Its a shame its not possible cos that is wasted space, oh well never mind...if anyone has any other ideas, im up for them....Is there a program which would do it maybe?

and two things:

1. I cant move the Quicklaunch toolbar...i think its only poss with created ones, as mentioned

2. Your sig is too big...OK, its only a little over, but what if someone did one 510 x 210, theyd say "well its only just bigger than his" and then they get bigger and bigger....the limit is there for a reason; its not difficult for you to import it into Paint Shop Pro and resize...which would also get rid of the problem of it being over 100K...I really dont see why you have one image which is so big; its just daft.

3. If you want to hijack a thread, do it elsewhere...If youre gonna discuss, start a topic in the lounge. This was a serious question, and it doesn't deserve to go to the lounge.

It is possible, indeed desirable, to have your Quick Launch (and other) toolbars at the side of the screen.

Here is a screenshot of my computer; I have just moved my mouse to the left of the screen to show the toolbars. When I move the mouse away, it auto-hides again.
This means I have a convenient method of launching virtually any program with one click, but it doesn't get in the way when I'm not using it. :)

The top toolbar is the Quick Launch bar.

Xilo: please resize your signature.

How to drag it to the side:

http://www.mcbriens.net/liam/img/toolbardrag.jpg

Above you'll see a toolbar. To move it around the taskbar, you click and drag the bit with the yellow arrow. You'll see it changes to a 'side-to-side' cursor when you drag it.

However, to drag it off the taskbar, you must click and drag the bit with the blue arrow (the toolbar title). You'll see that it changes to a mulltidirectional arrow cursor, and you can drag it wherever you like.

edit: as Vivitron 15 found out to his disgust (look down), you have to have all windows minimized before doing this ;)

Then it's just a case of getting rid of the text (deselect "Show title" and "Show text"), and setting it to "auto-hide" and "always on top".

Hope this helps :)

edit: image is fixed. Sorry, guys!!!! I keep forgetting I have these tools on display....

The easy way to have all ur Shortcuts all together is to make new Toolbars and then make them so little that only show when u click on they just like the start bar ! here is a example :

http://www.iespana.es/Planet-Z/newstuff/mytoolbar.jpg
as U can see I have 2 extra toolbars one for games and the other for tools !

the only thing u need 4 this is a folder full of shortcuts and then you can do a toolbar with a right click on the start bar new toolbar and chose that folder . enjoy
