http://www.ip-adress.com/

go to your peers tab in utorrent a pick a random ip address. Copy it and search for it on that site. It will give u a google map image which apparently is accurate to about a quarter of a mile of where the person lives.

The IP will be resolved to the local hub of your ISP, not your home address, since IPs are issued by country, then by ISP.

In uTorrent you can still resolve IPs.....

Already knew that. Yes, it's a strange feeling knowing that anyone can see where you live.

If I was in a public tracker downloading a movie on Saturday that just got released on Friday, yeah I might be a little concerned my IP is being broadcast to everyone in the swarm. But since most of my time is on private trackers, I really don't care. Especially when there's barely 5 people seeding.

Mine shows 7 towns away, a few IP's ago, it showed the wrong state!

I use this tool all the time actually. It's great for finding a fast seeder, pinpointing his location to make sure it's out of the country and scanning his IP range for open FTP servers :naughty: ;)

Lol...9 miles away!!
not a problem, in my opinon...

impressive. this is the most accurate whois Ive come across. off by one city ~15 miles.
other ones just showed where my isp hub was

Zaxx
03-14-2008, 03:39 AM
Yep...it just shows your ISP's nearest hub. Must say...closer than most I've seen..~15-20 off.

Yeah mine just shows my isp. Not my house.

you can get the exact same info @ dnsstuff.com, hell when you enter an IP address, they even have an exact google map of the IP's location right there at the bottom of the first page! There are several sites like that, but all of them are only about 90% accurate. (they are wrong about location or even country about 1 out of 10 times)... those are only the public dns tracers though, law enforcement has access to more accurate results, and a simple court order to the ISP will give them an actual physical address, name of subscriber, etc.

Nothing you do on the internet is really private, but the average bitorrent user doesn't have much to worry about unless they're downloading kiddie porn or planning the next al qaeda attack.
