I have recently downloaded a video file with .mkv as extension. I have tried a lot of video players to see it with: Windows Media Player, Media Player Classic, PowerDVD and VLC Player.

With PowerDVD I can't even get the file started.
With Media Player Classic and Windows Media Player the video was blocking very frequently, but the sound was good.
With VLC Player it seems much better, but still the video blocks sometimes.

What do you suggest for a .mkv file to be played with? Please also tell me if I need certain codecs. I use K-lite Codec Pack.

Thanks!

Try KMPlayer (http://www.kmplayer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8351). I tried it and played the .mkv files way better than the VLC Player.

download the matroska video pack and you'll get the codecs to watch it with whatever video player you want.

K-lite Codec Pack + CoreAVC + Media Player Classic = Win. Or just try VLC ^^

Try BS Player Pro
I think it can play .mkv files

If it is a HD 1080 rip then it might be your processing power that is not able to handle it.

What is the name of the file and what are your PC processor and memory specs?

Try downloading this codec pack from one of my fav sites Afterdawn :) >> http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/video_tools/k-lite_codec_pack_full.cfm

Then use media player classic and see how you get on......

If still no joy well listen to what DKre8ive1 said.

Good luck

First make sure you uninstall all the codec packs that you have downloaded and try to download the latest codec packs from the net kcodec and try to reinstall again and that should fix the issue.. Basically if the right codec is not installed this causes lot of issues.. However .mkv files takes more processor than other movie files and .mkv known to be HDTV content and you need to have good processor and RAM to rum smoothly...
