Im looking for servers that let you buy block accounts, can anyone please post the ones they know? :)

I've got astraweb, octanews, blocknews, megabitz and usenet-news (highwinds reseller) so far.

As far as I know the best and cheapest option is..

http://usenet-news.net/

One hundred day retention, although I sometimes get incompletes in the big groups after 50 days.:frusty:

I currently use both usenet-news and astraweb. I think Astraweb is superior in both completion and retention.

Im just going to be using them for unlimited posting, how good is usenet-news (highwinds) at posting?

Im just going to be using them for unlimited posting, how good is usenet-news (highwinds) at posting? If you've an astraweb block account for unlimited posting, is there a need to change? You can continue posting and never d/l, it doesn't get turned off.

www.news4u2.com is currently selling a 100 gig block "special" for only 20 bucks. That's the best price I've seen anywhere. I don't know anything about their service though. It appears to be the same company as Newsdome, which just closed down it's site and redirected visitors to news4u2.

To celebrate our 10th year of providing Usenet access we are offering you a super deal the chance to purchase a 100 Gig block of Usenet access for the low price of $19.95

a block account means you don't lose access to the servers until you use the full 100 Gigs it doesn't matter how long it takes to use it.

But for block accounts, you can't go wrong with either Astraweb or Usenet-news.net

I use mega-bitz.net's 25GB-Package for 8.95 USD and am quite satisfied w/ it.
~110d retention and very high completion rate. Can't think of any failed
downloads and i've been using that account since ~1.5 yrs.

EDIT: btw, I also used usenet-news before.

Had some issues of late with usenet-news.net. Slow connection slow propergation on posts. The retention is not 100 days as the site suggest. On some large groups the post has fallen off after 50 days. But yes they are the best on price.

Astraweb has the best retention of any block account I know of. 125+ days via NZBs. Astraweb owns their own server farm, unlike Usenet-News and many of the rest of the hundreds of Usenet "providers" that are just resellers that connect you to the same Highwinds/UNS back-end servers.

Any retention issues on one provider (reseller) are therefore going to be duplicated on many others. When shopping for a NSP, I always find out what company they are using for their back-end servers. Commonly it is Highwinds owned.

NEWSGROUPDIRECT ... The cheapest block 50 and 100 accounts
Let's compare NewsgroupDirect.com with Usenet-News.net:

The 50 GB block costs the same ($15) on both Usenet-News and NewsgroupDirect
The 100GB block is $1 less at NewsgroupDirect.

The main difference is that NewsgroupDirect gives free headers, while Usenet-News no longer does, instead giving everyone an extra 10% of download volume (so when you buy a 100 GB account at Usenet-News you actually get 110 GB of download). So for someone who uses NZB sites instead of downloading headers (ie - most of us) Usenet-News comes out cheaper than NewsgroupDirect on all accounts.

As I mentioned a few posts back, news4u2.com has the cheapest 100GB block (that I know about) at $20. I just found out that they appear to use the same back-end servers as Usenet.com (which is Newsfeeds.com server farm) which makes me wonder if they are now blocking all MP3 groups like Usenet.com (which was sued recently)
