That's gangter rap... not really hip-hop.

You need to check your history. Hip-Hop was created in Bronx N.Y. I know my hip-hop. Especially being in the industry. A hip-hop artist and producer. Since you consider 2pac not to be hip-hop (Actually the best hip-hop artist to ever LIVE, do some google search to scrounge up some facts) even though Biggie was my favorite artist of all time. I refuse to argue. I'll give you some hip-hop names skizo and also to educate other members within these forums who may not have any idea who these people are.

Old School (1979-1992) (Don't pay attention to the order)

1. Rakim
2. KRS-One
3. Slick Rick
4. LL COOL J (Old LL)
5. Grand Master Flash
6. Busy Bee
7. MC Shan
8. Roxanne Shante
9. DJ Herc (Hip-Hop Creator)
10. Run-DMC (I should put them first)
11. MC Lyte
12. Kurtis Blow
13. Big Daddy Kane
14. Sugar Hill Gang (Rappers Delight)
15. N.W.A.
16. The Fat Boys
17. Doug E Fresh

New School (1993-2000)

1. Tupac
2. Notorious B.I.G.
3. Nas
4. Jay-Z
5. Eminem (Slim Shady Days)
6. Big Pun
7. Big L
8. Common Sense (He goes by Common now)
9. Kool G Rap (From The Juice Crew)
10. Mos Def (Blackstar)
11. Hi-Tek (Blackstar)
12. Jedi Mind Tricks (They really good peoples)
13. Immortal Technique
14. Busta Rhymes
15. LOX
16 DMX
17 EVE
18. Heavy D

Now Of Days (2007-2008 and on)

1. Common
2. Joel Ortiz
3. Papoose
4. Rick Ross
5. Fat Joe
6. Talib Kweli
7. Jim Jones
8. LOX (Sheek, Jada Kiss, Styles P)
9. Def Jux (Artists)
10. El-P
11. Diplomats

I just know my history I grew up on all of it. I have been a hip-hop fan since the beginning around the KRS-One Boogie Down Production days.

There are more but not much in this current bubble gum climate. Take from someone who admires a lot of folks. I know I definitely forgot some worthy contenders in my list. I'm currently just going off the dome.
Thats hip-hop as you probably may know.

grimms u forgot about EPMD!

I told you all I would forget some people. There were just too many gifted artist's back then. Public Enemy (Chuck D, Flava Flav) EPMD (Eric Sermon, R Parish, and DJ Scratch) were a super group back then. I actually don't know how I forgot them but I did. Queen Latifah and Mobb Deep as well.

West Coast Artists (Even though some are considered Gangster Rap but real hip-hop to me as well)

1. N.W.A. (Dr. Dre, Eazy-E, Ice Cube, MC-Ren, DJ Yella, The DOC(sub member really)
2. Dr. Dre (My favorite Producer of all time)
3. Ice Cube (Death Certificate was my fav)
4. Eazy-E (Eazy Duz It)
5. Spice 1 (187 He Wrote)
6. MC Ren (Shock Of The Hour)
7. E-40
8. Tupac (7 Day Theory)
9. MC Eiht
10. Z Ro
11. Boss (Female Hardcore Rapper)
12. The Game
13. Snoop Dogg (Doggystyle)
14. The W.C.
15. Mack 10
16. Coolio
17. Ice-T
18. Mad Lib

I can't think of many others at the moment.

grimms what are your recommendations for rap albums i should download if i can't stop listening to Jedi Mind Tricks? :P

Ikon The Verbal Hologram (Vinnie Paz now) and Stoupe Enemy Of Mankind are great people. I have spoke to both of them before online. I still bump Violent By Design (w Jus Allah), and Visions Of Gandhi Everyday. Suggestions of albums to download..I MEAN BUY? Depends since you like underground hip-hop. Have you ever heard of MF DOOM?

Albums for T.S.O.L.

Madvillany (MF Doom & Madlib)
Viktor Vaughn (MF-Doom) (first album)
Violent By Design (Jedi Mind Tricks)
Rip The Jacker (Canibus)
Capital Punishment (Big Pun)
Paid In Full (Rakim)
Finding Forever (Common)
Revolutionary Volume 1 & 2 (Immortal Technique)
Killah Priest (View From Masada)
50 Cent (Power Of The Dollar)
Extinction Level Event (Busta Rhymes)
Look Mom No Hands (Vast Aire)
N.W.A. (Straight Outta Compton)(If your over 18)
Mobb Deep (The Infamous)
Cormega (The Testament)
Wu-Tang Clan (Enta Tha 36 Chambers)
Blue Sky Black Death
The Devils Rejects (Bomshot and Jus Allah)

Actually unless your over 18 I wouldn't download any of these. I don't want to get your parents upset lol. Seriously. I can think of alot more just not at the moment. My brain is kinda fried right now. Just look up all the names and album titles. Most can be found. Look around.

Dude I'm 18, and I've got alot more serious issues on my mind than rap lyrics..

anyways, i've already got stuff by Blue Sky Black Death, Wu-Tang, Immortal Technique and NWA, but alot of those albums i havn't listened too yet

The Devil's Rejects is one of my favorite movies that album stuck out just because of the name
thanx for those recommendations, I'll be sure to give them all a try over the next month or so :D

(ps you mixed and matched putting artists in the brackets and putting albums in the brackets lolz)

Wasn't sure. There are 13 and 14 year olds here. Yea I was doing 80 different things when I posted earlier. My brain was fried. Definitely download MF Doom and Devils Rejectz. If you need DR I can sendspace it to you (In the future). Theres alot out there. I'll make more good Jedi Mind type suggestions when my brain clears. I sound like a complete dumbass right now lol. I just haven't gotten alot of sleep lately and I hear ya on those life issues (They effect us all).

Oh yeah they use alot of stuff from the DR movie. You'll like it. Oh another good one is Civilaringz "I" album(He is a Wu affiliate). I can do without all the screw american stuff but the beats are ill as hell on that album. It's produced by the rza and other wu-tang affiliates. You'll enjoy that album if you like stoupe production "Eve of war" and "Winds devouring men" type stuff.

Not my type of hip-hop. did listen to his latest album just because of the hype. Wasn't my flavor of hip-hop, but won't knock him. Different strokes for different folks.

pete rock - ny's finest (2008)

peter philips convinces with a late work that you can enjoy without feeling old. of course it's classical to the max. pete rock doesn't have to invent rap newly, he just gotta be pete rock. the fact that young guru mixes helps, but essential is that pete rock is in good shape, likes to rap and steps in front of the mic very often.

it doesn't play a role that he never was and is the biggest mc, only the flavour counts.

when he comments with redman (whose last albums sucked bigtime) on things in "best believe", everything is clear.

as well as when he celebrates himself over a green-lantern-beat: "don't be mad because you're not me / i'm a fucking posterboy for the mpc".

one thing you can overlook: nobody needs jim jones or the lords of the underground on a pete rock album that you need.

p.s. check out nahright.com. it's a nice hiphop blog.

I'm a producer. Dr. Dre is my all time favorite producer. Detox is rumored to be released in the fourth quarter of 2008 (Fall season). We've been hearing about this album for about 5 years now though. We'll see. Dre is in his forty's now though.
