View Full Version : Automatic Post Locking

lynx

I have an idea about automatically locking posts which have not had a reply for a certain number of days (maybe 60 or 90, could depend on which room it's in).

I think it would be fairly easy to write a script to do this.

It would prevent people dragging these old posts back to the top of the pile, but they would still be there for reference, and the mods could still unlock them if they suddenly became relevant again.

Any thoughts?

Didn't think so.

Ok mods, you can close this one already. ;)

I like the idea, but I think 30 days would be even better than 60 or 90. http://www.piczonline.com/client/titey/thmbup.gif

The post would only be locked in the normal way, so you could PM a mod to unlock it.

But if you just want to highlight it, you can just post a link.

I think you'll find that there is a time limit..................it's qiute long tho, trouble is if old threads are left the DB fills up

I think a thread should be locked before anyone answers  beep

No offense, Somebody.... but YEAH RIGHT!

It always works so well when we ask people to search before they post questions, or to read the FAQ's before posting shite! :P

I'm sure it would be similarly effective. http://www.piczonline.com/client/titey/no.gif

Well I being the guilty one for those bumps have an idea. All those really old posts are just cluttering up the data base. Why not burn them onto DVD disc or something, then the history is not lost. The idea of locking I feel is reasonable. Titey's idea after 30 days without a reply seems a good idea. Posting a link, why not? On the other hand it could serve as a reminder to some, if they now feel embarrassed, to be thoughtfull when posting?

vivitron 15
08-05-2003, 11:22 AM
i reckon itd be a shame to delete them, cos i sometimes flick thru the old ones..... search for stg and do in the opposite order (descending, ascending??) but theres no need for them to be resurected so much

To be honest I did't read any that I bumped. Yesterday there was a negative feeling in the lounge so being a bit fed up I thought to myself,"I wonder what's the oldest post!" So I went to have a look. Then I thought that it might distract from all that negativity. So I bumped a few. Now I see today that you figured in them. Oh, I did read the post to Rozie though! One of the posts I bumped ended up in games world, that surprised me. As magic pointed out I could not find the oldest post in the manner that I tried.

Ah, but the point about microsnot products is that they are bad enough already, at least until SP2.
But since so many need to use them, I'm not going to make them worse by adding ketchup.

I think that they progressively get worst, not better, so SP2 is really a bad idea.
I think you're just trying to explain away what is really a very simple truth; you're a spy for the ketchup hordes.
