i tried googling what Newsgroups are.. and it came up with Usenet..

i dont quite understand what this is and how does it relate to torrents?

if anyone could give me an simple explination, thanks.

Nothing to do with torrents at all. See this guide:

The only similarity is that both are a way of accessing content. You may get the same video/audio/apps on each, but then again not.

In a nutshell
Bittorrent is a P2P where you download/upload files to connected peers - its a distributed network

Newsgroups are classic client-server you download (or upload new [don't need to upload parts of the file you download]) from a central NNTP server. So more akin to FTP than P2P. :D

it doesn't relate to torrents, its an entirely different system. usenet is a bit like the internet in itself. a newsgroup service provider is needed or some isps do offer usenet access. files and messages are then uploaded and stored on usenet servers and people can then go in and download from the servers.
