Maybe I woke up on the wrong side of the bed, but I wish that people would stop saying that they need something.
Need to eat ,breathe, sleep .You merely request something and you either get it or you don't.
Nominate me for biggest dick on the board if you want, but I think it needed saying.

+1 for this. It's pretty annoying... Especially in sentences like "I need *** because it's very good tracker with this, this and this." So how do you know it's so good? Someone told you and you belive everything you hear? But it's something different, and YES - people don't need. They WANT :P

the inviter should know why you want it ... it`s that so hard to understand ? when you invite someone you expect that user to be active not to have an account to praise with it

I don't think you woke up on the wrong side of bed, because that's definitely annoying. Either it is a language barrier or people take torrents way too seriously. Nobody needs torrents. Nobody needs an invite. Nobody needs the internet. Sure, we all want something, which is acceptable, but it is far from necessity.

@ benchez, I too dislike the "good luck" crowd.

People say good luck to raise their post count.
Just another form of spamming .

i really hate those. especially since we have a +/- 1 button on the right corner of every post.

you could even hide a shitty post if enough people used that function.

of course nobody does, because it doesn't increase your post count and people need to know that the "+1" poster is there, even if he's too stupid to post a sentence.

i would love to see every "+1" poster get an infraction for spamming the forum.

I'm glad that others are on the same road that I am.

You don't "need" an invite.

You "Need" food,water,oxygen etc.

Seems like splitting hairs to me. Maybe it's just the way i talk but if i want in a tracker, i'll usually tell people what i need.
"I need what.cd if anyone has it"
"I want what.cd if anyone has it"
both sounds the same to me lol...

What if you were talking to a friend and he said "Do you need bitmetv?" Would you say "no, but i want it"?

:(

The same thing used to happen to me until I started catching myself before I said it.

I think I have fixed my issue now though..

We used to do that but we spent hours giving out infractions. Then when some members ignored the infractions, their account would become disabled after an accumulation of points. Is posting +1 really ban-worthy?

We do still give out infractions (happily) to those who blatantly post "good giveaway", "+1", or "good luck", etc. in excess. If you see it being done, report one of the posts and note that they're a repeater. :)

no, of course not. it's just an annoying fact that one has to live with in a public forum and i know that it's not workable to warn everyone for it.

i won't report anyone for doing it. i will just draw my own conclusion about the spammer.

oh no, please let them spam there where i don't have to see it. just imagine all those traders would come to the bittorrent section to increase their post count. that would be horrible and the end of any serious bittorrent discussion around here.

on the contrary i propose triple post count for every post in the invite section and no post count here. that would make this section a quiet and peaceful place.

Well said thread opener. I find it quite annoying as well...

Most members do not speak or understand English that well enough to differentiate between I want & I need, and neither do the on-line translators they so commonly use, as well as just copying what a previous poster posted.

It is a presumptuous thing to even request that they follow the rules of English to the letter of the law.

While it maybe true that you only need to eat, breathe, sleep but i feel you're being utopic here. You don't even need the internet, email,tv,computer etc,the list is endless.
With times,needs also change.

Ask yourself honestly, have you ever needed a movie/tvshow/software that could be found only on certain closed sites and not everywhere therefore needing an invitation?

Also certain members who aren't good at english often use the word need when infact they're really requesting. No big deal here.

I don't think you're a dick but realise that different people have different needs/want whatever you wanna call it.

We decided long ago that a post is a post.

Though I'll say again, if we see that a member is routinely posting fluff or someone reports a member as doing such, they'll receive the standard infraction and the posts will be removed. If continued, the culmination of those infractions can and will disable the account for various time periods.

zaa is currently a prime example.

I have to agree with the "I Need" approach. You need a warning via infraction in my opinion. But I know they wouldn't want that.:P

With some editing within the second paragraph of PB's post. I agree whole heartily with PB in regards to turning off post count in the bt section(Not invite). Then we wouldn't have to weave through all the useless posts and discussion regarding nothingness.
