You could start off working with this shape, like, tessco:

http://filesharingtalk.com/vb3/images/statusicon_fst/forum_new.gif

Add arrows and padlocks and maybe lids so they look like envelopes, like.

Or you could keep it really simple and make them yellow for viewed threads, red for locked and green for threads with new posts :idunno:

was actually hoping for something like these from ipb:
http://forums.invisionpower.com/style_images/pro/f_norm.gif New Replies
http://forums.invisionpower.com/style_images/pro/f_norm_no.gif No New Replies
http://forums.invisionpower.com/style_images/pro/f_hot.gif Hot Topic (New)
http://forums.invisionpower.com/style_images/pro/f_hot_no.gif Hot Topic (No New)

Don't want to rip them off though. :/

The ones that you posted (the blue/orange squares) I want to replace next.

Instead of pissing about with new icons, why don't you delete the inbred section or make the lounge inaccessible to anyone with more than 5 posts there?
