:fst::fst:

As much as I love torrents I still need advice on a few aspects of torrenting and you guys can help me out.

1. What is the best range to portforward? Like the number range, or does it really matter which number I portforward?

2. What is the half-life of a torrent?

3. When would I know a torrent is a good for seeding? Is it like when there is one seeder and a couple of leechers? Because when I try downloading torrents with 100 seeders and 50-ish leechers I never get connected to leechers afterwards when the torrents is completed and cannot seed back. Is there a reason why?

Thanks for reading.

for the third question, you want a torrent with few (1 is the best) seeders, and many leechers. i thought this would be obvious to everybody.. even better though would be 1 seeder and few leechers on a torrent that's known to be popular

as for the half-life of a torrent, this isn't chemistry and i don't see how that applies... it really depends on the type of tracker you're talking about, and i don't know if there is a real figure anyways

i have no clue about the portforward question, maybe someone else could help you with that. i'd guess forwarding any of the normal ports would be the same. just don't pick a port that's not meant for torrenting. i think there is a range but i don't remember it off the top of my head, i've been forwarding the same port for probably a year now

thanks for the reply.

for the seeders to leechers ratio, would I still be able to seed if there are 20 something seeders and 50 something leechers?

What is your portforward number?

you just shouldnt use the default ports for bittorrent, cant remember the exact numbers now but its around the 6667 mark.

other than that the port doesnt really matter as long as you have forwarded it in your router/firewall.

and try to jump on something thats brand new on a tracker.

for us for instance, jumping on

Fifa 2003 when its first uploaded probably wont help you, but jumping on GTAIV 360 when thats first uploaded, probably will.

I use 50000 to 59999 range.

Half life of any torrent can vary, specialist trackers and a torrent will never die, 0day trackers and you should aim to be on & off the torrent within the first few hours.

One trick to ratio boosting is watch for a hot xvid of a new film, then stand by for the full dvd of it and get it as quick as you can and if you are interested in it - grab it 100%, if not stop at 50% and partial seed till it dies.

Same with games, watch for hot games at your favourite 0day tracker, most will jump into 50-100 leechers within the first hour and do the same as for the DVDR movie above. Then when it appears at your favourite gaming site, well you are already ready :)

I read somewhere that having a port of 50,000+ is the best.

my port is random and it`s between 50000 and 60000 so i think it`s good cuz i can seed :D

and btw if you don`t have huge speeds or box try to parcial seed ;) if you know what i mean

:yup:Yeah just as you said, Partial seeding is always to be one of the best way to keep up a fair ratio for a low bandwidth user.
