I'm just curious if there is any free newsgroups out there with decent content. Or are those all pay for, like GigaNews, etc?

you might be lucky and have decent access provided by your isp.

have a look for your isp here (http://docs.newzbin.com/index.php/Usenet:ISP_Providers).

There are, but depends on what you call decent. Used to use the test server at news-service until it stopped at the end of March - upto 160 day retention and maxed out my 8Mb. You just won't get people telling you where they are. The freebin ones are okay for posts upto about a month.

I would be interested if there are free servers to upload files without payment.

Just get a 2GB block account at usenet-news. It's only $2 and never expires. You can post an unlimited amount.

AT&T ISP newsgroups are pretty good. They've gotten a lot better in the past year.

BT news server address is news.btinternet.com which really redirects to europe.isp.giganews.com.
BT Broadband customer's only.

The Verizon News Server's URL is news.verizon.net. It also requires
you to authenticate to it by providing your VZ username and password.

theres a little thing called Google, try it out some time;)

Yah I kno that but I cant figure out what the username and password are. is it the username that you use to login to your router or is it something completely different?

it should be the same username and password you use for your email
VZ would have given you these when you signed up with them.
I not sure but its probable the same as your router username and password as well.
just try them out your not going to brake your newsreader if details are wrong
your just get a message that its unable to connect.

By what standards, lad? Their retention is like a week or less. However, their
speeds are not bad.

Its okay if you wanna get into newsgroup's and try it out. But you'll want more

You get a weeks retention on binaries.

your better off subscribing. try newsdemon. its only £7 quid a month for a basic unlimited package with the discount code review20.

Anyone use http://services.triton.net/keyword/newsgroups $8.95/mth seems like a very good deal. Also http://www.usenet-access.com/ ($6/mth with 2GB/Day). Any opinions?

RoadRunner comes with a great newsgroup service for free to their subscribers. About 70-day retention & 4 connections at a time...but TWC recently said that RR will be canning this service for various reasons by the end of the month.

...which probably warrants a thread of its own...which I will now start...
