A 101-year-old man has his sights on the London Marathon in a bid to become the world's oldest competitive runner.

This is something i found quite extraordinary to see a person his age attempting to run the marathon. I saw him on the news today and i was [/URL]astonished to see him he put a big grin on my face. Good for him I hope you do well.

No fucking way, he might walk it in lie 9 hours but he won't run over 26 miles. Not a fucking chance in your pants.

Totally agree, but then anyone who finishes in over 6 hours is basically walking .
I do like his attitude though.

“I’ve said I’ll attempt it,” he told Reuters by telephone from his workplace at Pimlico Plumbers. “I haven’t said I’ll complete it. If I do make it, all the better. I hadn’t thought of doing it before but someone asked me and the money goes to charity so why not?”
His sponsorship money will go to the Rhys Daniels Trust, which provides temporary accommodation for families of patients in specialist children’s hospitals.
“If I finish, I’ll do what I always do and have a pint and a fag,” he said. “People ask what is my secret but I haven’t got one. They say fags and booze are bad for you—but I’m still here, aren’t I?”

It's not even a particularly brisk walk.

WOW if that's a pic of him at 101 that guy looks a lot younger...

Here's some links of him I found:

Great link, very informative, thanks for that.

Buster Martin was born in France but, as a result of his teenage mother's illegitimate pregnancy or death, was sent to a Cornish orphanage, when he was three months old.

I love accurate reporting.

It gets better, apparently he married a 13 year old. Must have been the style at the time.

You French are weird. Weird like le Fox.

I wouldn't count him out just yet. Apparently last Sunday he ranthe half marathon in Essex in five hours 13 minutes.

The guy is 101 and still goes to work everyday as a plumber. :dabs:

If it took him over 5 hours to run a half Marathon and he could keep up that pace then it would take him over ten hours to run the Marathon.

At 26 miles that well under 3 miles an hour.

He's running fuck all, it's a gentle walking pace.

And also he's not a plumber, he cleans the vans for a company of plumbists.

SO did he run it then?

Mr JP Fugley
04-13-2008, 08:25 PM
Only if you count about 2.5 miles an hour as running.

Which it clearly isn't.

Running is when both feet leave the floor, walking is when one foot leaves the ground in turn.

Which did he do?

Mr JP Fugley

No one can run at that speed, it's too slow to be running. You have all sort of gravity issues

Walking speed is what, 4 mph. A fast walk sans the hip thing is about 6.5 mph. Speed walking with the wiggle is about 9.

You cant run at 2.5 mph unless you are on the fucking Moon.

Still. Walking 26 miles at his age is pretty impressive.

If he does it, then I agree it will be.

However the thread title says he's going to run it.

Pish says I, not a chance in the World. No way, no how.

Thinking about it you could run at 2.5 mph but it would look ridiculous and be seriously inefficient.

If I could I would.
