I really like the old vinyl but its so hard to find parts for record players, plus the records are hard to keep scratch free. MP3 is the way to go.

I like CDs and mp3's.
Really, I prefer mp3's if they're ripped/encoded correctly (read: Lame+EAC VBR), or .ogg. I like those because
I can put 100 or so good quality tracks on a disc and play it in my portable CD player, and I'm about to get an
mp3 compatible player for my car. A CD will hold about 5 albums @ 192kbps or VBR, so it makes it more convenient
to carry 20 CDs as opposed to 100.

Vinyl is good to drag out every once in a while, especially on a good system & a well-cared-for record. Some bands
still release albums on vinyl, such as Sparklehorse, & Godspeed You Black Emperor, and other, less obscure ones....

Cd - Vinyl - Tape - Mp3.......no thanks!

I prefer a good ole 8-Track over all of the above.

A few of my favorite 8-Tracks:

The Sex Pistols - Never Mind the Bollocks: Here's the Sex Pistols

http://www.8trackheaven.com/Images/sex.gif

Lou Reed - Metal Machine Music

http://www.8trackheaven.com/Images/mmm.gif

George Harrison - Cloud Nine

Boston - Boston

Pink Floyd - Animals

http://www.8trackheaven.com/Images/animals8.jpg

Frank Zappa - Lumpy Gravy

And I love to pull out the old Aquatron VX-33A 8 Track Player and crank it up - the neighbors just love it!

http://ebay1.ipixmedia.com/abc/M28/_EBAY_ac9ff417465e716e956a3a2a027c412b/i-1.JPG

And now you are asking: How Does 8-Track Work?

The 8-track cartridge contains a length of 1/4 inch tape which runs in a continuous loop at 3 and 3/4 inches per second (ips). The tape is wound around a hub in the middle of the cartridge. It pulls out from the center and follows a path which brings it across the front edge of the cartridge where it makes contact with the playback head. A pressure pad helps to bring the tape into proper contact with the head. The pinch roller, which is inside the cartridge, presses against the capstan, which is part of the player. The tape, pinched between the roller and the capstan (which is spun by the player's motor), is thus moved across the head. The tape itself is divided along its length into 8 channels or tracks (hence the name "8-track").

The tape head plays two tracks at a time--stereo! A metal sensing strip connects the ends of the strip of tape, forming the loop. Here's where the real 8-track magic happens. When the tape reaches the end of a program, the metal sensing strip connects with a solenoid coil in the player. This coil causes the playback head to shift along the width of the tape. This is the loud "click' or "clunk" sound you hear between 8-track programs. The playback head, shifted to it's new position, begins to play the next program in the sequence. This process can go on indefinitely, running through each of the four programs in sequence, until the world ends, or your batteries wear out, or the tape breaks.

Cd - Vinyl - Tape - Mp3......No thanks, not in a million years.

Tchau!

CD's and Vinyls all the way

You cant mix a decent trance, hardcore or drum n bass set with tapes lmao

CD's you can put all your mp3's onto em, vinyls look good when your in the mix and you have total control over the way you play your tunes

Hey, I can put all my 8-Tracks onto CD as well, with my handy 8-track to CD Converter.

8-track to CD Converter:

I made a great 8-track to CD converter out of an 8-track tape and some simple electronics. Take a look at this:

No problem at all with this Bad-Boy!

Vinyl sounds the best, and is a lot easier to take care of than most people think. You just have to spend a minute or two cleaning your record before and after playing it, and it will always sound great.

.shn files pwnz jo0! They are better than MP3s since they don't lose quality when converted. And they can be transfered from place to place without losing quality as well.

Vinyl - Only good for DJ's
Tapes - good for nothing
CD's - great if you can afford them
Mp3 - Only good in my Minidisc player

The problem with Mp3's is that they sound hollow compared to an uncompressed file. Although I won't care as soon as I get my car radio that plays Mp3's. 180 songs per CD baby!

It's gotta be VINYL all the way!!!

The other formats sound like shit. As for "8 Tracks" - don't make me laugh   .

Kassinopious,

There's no such thing as a good Trance or Hardcore set!!! And they ain't that difficult to mix anyway. :P

Have you ever even listened to an 8-Track?

Obviously not, or your would know how superior they are to everything else.........and I would venture to guess that it will be several years before anything even comes close to matching them!

Yeah, of course I've heard an 8 Track. Obviously no-one here knows as much about music as you ( well at least in your mind ) so I'll bow to your superior knowledge. You are so right Crumb Cat. I was wrong having an opinion that differs from yours - sorry!! <_< Mind you at least it's not as repetitive as your "What have you listened to?" thread!!! :P

soopaman,

My posts are obviously all in fun, so what's with the attitude?

I never claimed to have "superior knowledge" about music, so what's with the attitude?

Have whatever opinion you want, I don't really care.

As for the "What have you listened to?" thread, I'm glad you are enjoying it!

Tchau!

Long live the 8-Track!

128, but no matter the quality of the Mp3, there is still a certain hollow sound to it. It's in the nature of compression.
