Had newsleecher now for a year or so and having a few little issues with it. Just wondering if it's the best out there?
Any others i should look at?

If you want a full usenet client it is. If you want to download nzb's then get http://www.sabnzbd.org . I only ever use NL for headers now.
Newsleecher is the first reader I have ever used. Tried some others along the way, but ALWAYS returned to it, and as far as my exprience goes, it's the best. No other reader can compete with its well-designed interface and features, IMO. Besides, you have said that you are having a few issues with it, so why fix it if it ain't (totally :P) broken?
tried the others and always come back to Newsleecher
I think I've only paid £ 2 or so when I've upgraded the version of the software
don't bother with their Supersearch

Yeah, for downloading from Usenet it's also my favorite.
I like the efficiency, how it makes good use of resources without lagging.

Hmm not sure I'd trust using something like this Web based, especially if you're downloading warez....

You can read the code if you don't trust it unlike newsleecher.

SABnzbd !! Best one out there. Tried Newsleecher (Way to messy), Grabit (Only usefull when you just started to use newsgroups), Alt.binz (Very good and free client, but for the newer versions u have to pay)
But SABnzbd is the best one out there, and with a few tweaks you can upload your nzb's from school our anywhere else trough this website interface. And watch all the shows when you get home. REALLY the best one out there. Oww and if you wanna try it download SABnzbd+ not the SABnzbd, because SABnzbd isn't in development anymore but the + one still is.

You're running the server on your own machine...

Does the newest version of NewsLeecher let you preview jpgs/contact sheets before downloading them, or has this always been a feature (which version)?

ALT.Binz = simply the best
the free version is good  and who says you need to pay for the new versions? [Get off your butts and do a search, Alt.Binz 0.27.2 ]
I REALY like the RSS feature so much its made me add it to my firefox.
give it a try you wont be sorry!
It's been a while since I used newsbin, but I did try both newsbin and newsleecher and found I preferred newsbin - very configurable and nice features.

Woe, I've really only used GarbIt. I've always thought it was perfectly fine, and one of the best, if not the best. But then again, I'm totally new still to Usenet.
So definitely try out the other ones mentioned in this thread. Thanks.

I use NewsLeecher. I used to recommend GrabIt for n00bs. However the latest build is
too buggy, and there are compatibility issues with Vista (surprise).

Well, I've been trying out Newsleecher for the last couple days. And honestly I think grabit and newsleecher are kind of the same.

I've only used Newsleecher, so I can't really make a comparison with others, but I absolutely love it. I've been trying to find a similar reader for Mac with a super search like feature... (I'm using Unison which is great, except for that)

Was also using Forte Agent before but switch to Newsleecher after I got to utilize the binary download aspect of nntp more (due to dsl). It just made downloading easier for me :D

Yeah, I've switched to Alt.Binz. Very clean and simple interface. And it's very lightweight. I like it a lot.
I was using NewsLeecher for a little while, and I like this newsreader. Alot. But I was using the cracked version. Then a couple days ago the Super Search stopped working for me. Says I have to input my email address that I use with my Giganews account(and of course I don't have one since it's cracked). So I don't know how to get around that. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but still get that message when I try and use SuperSearch.
And since I was pretty much only using NL for it's SuperSearch, I've just switched to Alt.Binz since I think it's a better overall newsreader.
I'm really glad I've discovered the other newsreaders though. Or I'd still be stuck with GrabIt.

Another software I like is NewsReactor, useful if you browse through groups to get files.

I just tried Alt.Binz and couldn't figure out how to browse groups. I used to use Forte Agent a lot a few years ago.

^ You can't browse groups with Alt.Binz. You can only download NZB's with it. But that's all I do anyways, so Alt.Binz fits me perfectly. I'm liking this reader more and more everyday. It's completely replaced NL for me.

i like alt.binz better since it unrars after it downloads. You can also have it delete the files.

You can't directly browse groups (you can't download headers). But you can browse them indirectly using the built-in access to the indexing sites such as newzleech/binsearch. This works just as well without the CPU/bandwidth/headache of downloading headers. Browsing takes seconds.

I like it too but it is buggy. For instance, sometimes it just stops downloading for no reason. This has never happened using agent so I'm sure it's not my server. Also, you can't download headers which you may never need but it's nice to at least be able to.

I haven't had any downloads stopping before they're suppose to be. I'm using version 0.27.2. If you're not using that version then give it a try.
EDIT: Actually, I just checked and the newer versions(0.28.0 and 0.28.1) are finally available on Usenet.

Another vote for Sabnzbd from me.. the original program has been abandonded but it's supporters have taken it on and it has a new home with lots of new features :
http://www.sabnzbd.org/
Built in repair, unrar and delete functions, auto grab from Newzbin Postid completely skinable.

I personally think that it all depends on the user. Just try out a few clients and see which one you like best, some have extra features others are more stable.
I personally use Newsleecher for when I want to browse some groups and of course the Repair'N'Extract feature.

I feel that NewsLeecher is better for me.
But I also use NewsBin Pro at the same time.
It depends on your experience. Not the best soft is fitting for you.

Here's something worth mentioning if it hasn't already. For the movie downloaders try NZBplayer it allows you to download and stream the movie http://www.nzbplayer.com/
It has a built in VLC player. I like it so you don't have to wait for the download to finish. Also if you don't like the built in VLC that they have there is a way you can open up the movie and open it it up in the actual VLCplayer so that you the settings because the built in one they have only plays the video.
Edit: Forgot to mention it repairs and extracts the video too just remember to delete the rars and pars when the download is done. It should be in the rar folder of VLCPlayer

I like newsleecher but 0.28 alt binz is pretty good too as a backup client.
I agree that newsleecher isn't worth buying when the others are almost as good and just as functional.
