ever since they came out with avg 8 they are updating the free one everyday. not a problem but it makes me restart the computer every day. I think they are just trying to get me annoyed enough to buy their new one.

I've got a bona fide paid-for copy of AVG with about 12 months left to run on the license.

It's now sitting in a drawer doing nothing because in the last 12 months it has become the biggest pile of crap on the market.

Whatever you do, don't purchase this rubbish, find something else. I'd recommend NOD32.

Yes, Nod32 is the best antivirus in the market. It beats all in the proactive detection of malware, backdoors, trojens, macro and script viruses.

Onky bitdefender and kaspersky come any closer in matching the efficiency of Nod32.

AVG misses alot of malware has a problem removing bunch of others.
The only real plus is that is free but lets be honest all antivrus kinda are,so why use it.
Nod32 from my point of view this is not so bad, but the real problem is that Nod32 is starting to have trouble removing malware. Nobody can say that Nod32 is light anymore. Signatures are better but still way behind others, the only thing that keeps Nod32 in the race is the engine.
Avira AntiVir is getting better all the time, it has a great engine, signature database, it is very light on the system and it gets the job done.
Kaspersky is always good, it was always the case if you want to clean a machine, you use KAV. Kaspersky on the other hand has many compatibility issues with other softwares which doesn't make it so popular.
BitDefender great engine and a huge signature database makes is very reliable. But.........if you want to use BitDefender.......have in mind that it can be very heavy.
Personally I use Nod32and have no desire to change but if I was going to recommend an antivirus to someone it would be Avira Premium.
If you're just going by testing on AV comparatives you're only getting part of the story.

About 6-8 months ago someone at Grisoft decided that AVG should quarantine keygens whether they have malware or not and one by one new keymakers would end up in my quarantine every few days. NEO BRD CORE Etc. and each time all the keys in quarantine where all by the same key maker which made it obvious that Grisoft was targeting something in that specific persons keys and claiming it has a Generic trojan. At first I was fooled and deleted some keys, but after the second batch I rescanned with something else and they were clean. Some of the keys that were being quarantined were several years old and had been scanned by AVG hundereds of times and used by me with no ill effect.

Once I figured it out I started uninstalling AVG from my machines and I sent them a nasty e-mail and gave them several spankings on their forum (which were deleted straight away). I trusted Grisoft with full access to my PC for five years and now I wouldn't even visit their site on a bet. Grisoft AVG is a piece of crap company that thinks its the internet Police but they're just a-holes. They have no right deciding for me, what I can and can't keep on MY machine. Some software trials are too short to really get a handle on whether or not the thing is worth the price. Extending the trial period is the easiest way to find the best of the best to spend your hard earned money on.

...Kaspersky on the other hand has many compatibility issues with other softwares which doesn't make it so popular...Which software is incompatible with Kasper? I've been using, installing and recommending it for years without problems.

Kaspersky has a compatibility mode which helps on some software but there are problems if you try to run any other software with active hips(Comodo,ZoneAlarm.etc.)

Not true, do some research ----> Avira :)

That's true but two things to note
Avira will probably show any cracks that you are running as malware .Few false positives but not a big deal.
The new version 8 has a web guard that you should turn off as it really slows down browsing.
If anyone is interested in trying it out they're offering a 6 month free trial on their web site right now.https://license.avira.com/en/promotion-t0q1aatr05zwftftgnqr

Boy just when the app was doing pretty good now they came out with 8 and this Webguard, seems like it's messing up pretty good for users, best not to install it, it looks like...
