http://filesharingtalk.com/vb3/picture.php?albumid=25&pictureid=204"With Service Pack 3 for Windows XP just over the horizon, we've managed to get our hands on the internal schedule for the release of the highly anticipated update to the aging operating system. As you can see in the list below, most of the stages will occur before the end of the month, though forced automatic updates won't land until June. This delay should give system administrators an ample amount of time to prepare for the upgrade or simply come up with an excuse for when things go awry."

April 14, 2008: Support is available for the release version of Service Pack 3 for Windows XP
April 21, 2008: Original Equipment Manufacturers, Volume License, Connect, and MSDN and TechNet subscribers
April 29, 2008: Microsoft Update, Windows Update, Download Center
June 10, 2008: Automatic Updates

Why in the world would you have support for something a week before its release? Support for the RC versions?

Just curious any of you gonna disable automatic updates after SP3 (since it's the last SP)?

Better than having hotfixes, if you ask me...

Got lazy installed SP3 Rc instead of downloading 90+ updates....Well lets just say a few days later windows would not boot..partition screwed up ,mbr screwed up...easier to format and start all over...This guy will be waiting for awhile before installing sp3 again...

Of course earlier versions appear on the internet before. First off you have RTM releases, which spring up early.

SERVICE PACK 3 GO!

In a repeat of a February donnybrook over Service Pack 1 (SP1) for Windows Vista, IT professionals and developers are blasting Microsoft Corp.'s decision to withhold the final version of Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) from them until after it's released to the public.

Subscribers to TechNet and Microsoft Developer Network (MSDN), who pay hundreds annually to the Microsoft for the right to download software for testing and development purposes, called the move a "farce," a "slap in the face" and "ludicrous."

I've been lookin' at their forums and it is quite funny how the users are reacting, but I'd have to agree. If it's RTMed, why withhold it? And why the public release before the TechNet subscribers? :glag:

Brief Description

Windows® XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) includes all previously released updates for the operating system. This update also includes a small number of new functionalities, which do not significantly change customers’ experience with the operating system.There. It also does include a network security feature from Vista, but...You'll probably never notice it's existence.
